|nemopar||I bought my 2003 TJ auto with 50,000 miles. Trans fluid was still nice and red, no burnt smell. I dropped the pan, changed the fluid/filter and added a tranny cooler. Chrysler transmissions are no longer bullet proof. The 42RLE in your Jeep is used in many Chrysler products with mixed results. I would change the fluid and NOT have it flushed.|

I have 3 other high mileage vehicles that were bought before the 100, 000 mile mark. Two have auto tranny's and one not, I did change the fluids on them before 100,000 miles .
1993 Ford F350, manual, gas, 351 with 667.139 miles. The only thing I have had to replace was the computer.
!998 F150 with auto, 4.6 it has 269,000 on it. No problems yet.
2000 Nissan exterra, auto, 237,000 on it, runs great.
Thats why I asked about Chrysler and Jeep products or any vehicle over 100K

That would have been the first thing to do; along with the eng oil, filters, plugs and wires, transfer case and differentials. Zerk Fitting lube? How Bout Timing chain or Belt?
Why the AUTO Tranny? Pain!!
That should be flushed around every 20,000 to 40,000 unless Synthetic...
Money 4 Upgrades? New Tranny $1500 minimun (standards) more 4 (autos)....

|jwm1986||Most bad stories I hear are where the fluid has never been changed then people go and have a "power flush" done! That is where it is done by a machine. Chunks can break lose and lodge in any of the tiny viens and lines! I have done a basic drain, filter replace, and refill on several vehicles over 100k and none of them have ever had any trouble.|

Tranny flush after 100,000 miles, I know you have been asked before
I bought my 2003 TJ in May. I changed the oil as soon as I got it. Checked all the fluids, which were OK. It has the 4.0 with auto tranny. Had 103,000 miles on it when I got it and it has 112,000 now.
I have no idea of the maintenance that it was given before I got it. Everything seems to be working fine. My question is.........with this many miles, would you recommend a tranny flush or change filter and fluids myself. I have heard stories for all makes and models that doing this after 100,000 miles would only make matters worse. Would it be worth it to do them all, front end, rear end and transfer case.
I know anything can happen to a vehicle with this many miles, but I had rather spend my money on upgrades than buying a new tranny of transfer case right now.
Would you flush it, or just keep driving.
I tried searching but I couldn't find this particular answer.
