Hey Jeff,
It has a 6" lift, not sure what kind, still learning my way around Jeeps. i modify the drivetrains all the time in my shop, just know nothing about they rest. It has 35" nitto tires. It is going to get a Ford 9" with discs that is laying around in my shop and I am working on buying a LS engine, trans and transfer case for it shortly. I installed a 6.2 Escalade drivetrain in another Jeep with 40" tires, amazingly the GM drivetrain weighed less than the Jeep drivetrain.

1997 wrangler 4.0 auto trans. Warn winch, bumpers and rock gards, york air compressor. I paid 6500 for it.

My 2003 has the "key dance" capability if that is what you are referring to. My 2003 also has the chip in the key. Somebody tried to steal it but, unlike your situation, they weren't successful although they caused over $2,000 in damages trying, new steering column included.

A half decent 1997 for $5,000 seems possible.

Jerry Bransford Between 97 or 98, I'd go for the 97 as the 98 lost a few features like the ability to display its own DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) and a few other minor things. I would rather have my old '97 TJ that was stolen instead of my present '04.

The 4.0L and 2.5 engine-equipped TJs both came with the same axles and brakes, a Dana 30 up front and a Dana 35c in the rear. However, for the 4.0L equipped TJs, the Dana 44 was an optional extra-cost upgrade to the standard rear Dana 35c. So if you look, you may get lucky and find one that has the optional Dana 44 in the rear. The Dana 30 will be the front axle for all of them. Only the 2003 and newer Rubicons had a Dana 44 front and rear.

If I do get TJ, it will be a 97 or 98, cant afford anything newer. Another question- do the four and six cylinder TJ's have the same axles and brakes? Or does the six have better axles? I am asking as I will be installing a V8 at some point in time. I have done 6 V8 conversions, all on YJ's in my shop. Last one had a 6.2 LS engine, trans and transfer case from a 2007 Escalade. It ate the axles in four weeks. Now has a dana 44 in front and Ford 9" in the rear.
