Interesting, but there is WAY too much out there about the company, and their kits are just way too cheap for them not to be cutting corners. Look at the cost of a simple OME 2" lift (yes, even factoring in import tax/dollar value) vs. the RC 2.5" lift. It's twice as much. Do you get what you pay for either way? God yes- RC's stuff rides like crap and breaks or fails like it's its job, while OME's stuff rides well, handles at speed like a Jeep shouldn't, and lasts well.
I'm not out to bash on RC, but merely to share my experience, which was that the products were bad. They sent me their "new and improved" coils, which sagged even faster than the old ones. They called those a "bad batch," and sent yet another "newer and more improved" version, that also sagged in under a week! No excuse for shit like that- just junk- Mark W.

As I said, I'm new to this stuff too. After I posted, I called rough country to see what was up. They knew about 2 instances and said they corrected the problem and were surprised that they were not happy with the solution. I saw one thread on here about a track bar problem at the mount location and I asked about that specifically. He said that the bracket in question looks different than the one they have in their kits. Maybe a new version? I don't know. I asked about the stiff ride. He said the New 2.0 series shock is much softer, more like the factory ride.
I just thought I would tell you how I spent my afternoon. I don't care either way.

I have a rough country 4" suspension lift, and have had no problems. Love it.
I think you have to take into consideration making sure it is done right at first and what you want to get out of it.

|snopro269||I want to put in a lift myself that enables 35 inch tires on without and offloading rubbing issues and doesn't make my J/K handle like a lumber wagon. Is there such a kit available ? I don't want to install a low budget kit that later I will regret !!!|

|snopro269||If rough country is located nearby you should tell them a lot of people are not happy with the quality of their products. If they would stand behind a good warranty policy for you and they are located nearby then you could simply drop off your jeep every Monday morning for repairs. Lucky You!!!|

Service does matter, but I'd rather not have to use it due to well-designed parts that integrate well with the OEM systems and parts, not cause them to break! I'd rather get the good stuff from day 1, and not have to worry about a thing. As mentioned, I tried going cheap with RC once on my wife's rig, and you'll never hear a thing about their service (which WAS quite good), because the quality was absolutely JUNK. The best service in the world can't fix crap parts- Mark W.|

|dlampe||Brian, Call Rough Country and speak to them. They are is your backyard up in Dyersburg. They are pretty nice and open on the weekends. You might not buy from them but they could be a good resource. If you do buy from them, they are close enough to help if you have questions. I really think a lot of these lifts are similar. The service is what makes the difference.|

Also, RC makes (or made) a 2.5" coil spring lift. It is, quite simply, the biggest piece of shit lift I've ever had the displeasure of having on a Jeep. We had it on Briana's JK for 3 months- 2 sets of replacement coils, 3 replacement shocks, and countless headaches later, we sent it back. I wouldn't recommend that to anybody who doesn't want to hate their life- save your $ for something better- Mark W.

Brian, here's a link to Rough country's website. you can compare the parts to what your brother has. If there are no spring spacers its likely the 2.5'' lift.
A piece of advice for lift shopping, do not jump into any lift. read, read, and read. There are hundreds of people that have tried mulitple lifts...there are tons of reviews on this site, and the other Jeep sites. Many people jump into the first (inexpensive) lift they find, only to see that they hate how the Jeep drives afterwards. learn from their mistakes, and you'll be better off.

|BrianCarter||Ok so a buddy of mine swapped his wheels an tires with me so now I'm riding on 16" black pro comps with 265/75 BFG T/A KO's...then my brother pulls up in a JK X Sport he just got...it has a lift with 305/75/16 Cooper discovery tires...his lift looks GREAT but I can't tell how much lift it really has...I could see the shocks were rough country and the springs as well...he also had an aftermarket steering stabilizer...is there an easy way to find out how much lift is on there? It looks like is around 2"-2 1/2"...also will I need the stabilizer when I put the same lift on mine? By the way my new black wheels look fantastic|

|DelRocini||Research. Have a plan. Take it slow. A little modification can make a big difference. The first step is to define your "need". Then plan accordingly. The biggest bang for your buck will be a good set of tires.|

|thaduke2003||Yes, there's a pretty decent difference between a 2" and a 3" lift. Past 2.5" of lift, you'll want to start replacing arms, and might start causing extra wear and tear on your driveshafts. Also, 3" will fit up to 35" tires, and you'll need to re-gear for those. |BrianCarter||I don't do a lot of off-road stuff. I have a pair of KC spot lights right at the windshield mount. As far as the lift goes, I really don't want to go to big. Just something that looks really good. Is there really that much difference in a 2" lift and a 3" lift? I don't want to spend money like crazy but I can already tell this jeep is going to get me in trouble with the wife|

Guys- they're asking for a lift that won't adversely effect handling, not suggestions for other mods.
The big things to keep an eye out for in selecting a lift will be amount of lift, and shocks. Keep it small, and go for premium shocks- Bilstein 5100's are everybody's pick for best all-around shock for not a ton of coin. Keeping it small lift-wise (2") would be a good idea. Then, you'll stick to smaller tires (32-33"), and that, too, will help keep handling in check. Sticking to an all-terrain tire will also help.
So here's my build sheet:
OME 2" lift springs (you pick light or HD- shop around- maybe Northridge4x4.com)
Bilstein 5100 shocks (shockwarehouse.com)
285/70/17 Firestone Destination A/T's (great A/T for not a lot of coin- Tirerack.com)

What do you plan to do with the jeep? That depends greatly on what type and size lift you should get. Honestly if you plan to wheel it much the first thing I would suggest is tires. A good set of tires will help you more than a short lift IMHO. If you have the money get some wheels with a low backspacing because you will need them with most any lift. Tell us more about your plans.

Just got my 1st jeep (2008 4door Unlimited) I've already picked up a few interior things. Just trying to decide what to do next. I'm thinking lift. It is a daily driver so I need a lift that will not effect the handling. Any suggestions??
