steitsma i looked at it with a flashlight and can't really tell like you indicated, i will have to crawl under and take a better look when not raining but to know for sure i will have to remove the skid plate!!

steitsma thanks for the input, i was thinking with the lift kit and the skid plate lowering brackets that I would be able to see in there enought with a flash light to see if it was broken or not. Once it stops raining here i will investigate and keep you posted!!

Jerry Bransford You won't be able to see the transmission mount well enough to see if it is broken unless you first remove the transfer case skidplate. If you do so, make sure to first (!) remove the four small nuts in the center of the skidplate that secures the transmission mount to the skidplate. Otherwise, dropping the skidplate with the nuts holding it to the transmission mount will break the transmission mount.

It's a good idea to support the transmission in front of the skidplate with a jack stand before dropping the skidplate.

steitsma Thanks, I will have to crawl under there and see if there are any mounts that are busted!! I'll let you know.

Jerry Bransford Well, that could be caused by a broken transmission mount or, less likely, a broken motor mount. No worries, the transmission mount is easily swapped and the mount itself is inexpensive to buy. The motor mount is only slightly more time consuming to install and a bit more expensive. My initial guess would be a broken transmission mount though.

If you want to change it yourself, post up & we can give you the easy instructions on how to do it. If you buy one, try to find one that is made from rubber like the OE mount is. Some aftermarket mounts are made from polyurethane which will transmit more vibration into the passenger compartment.

Thesnufalufagus I have the same jeep as you with 14500 miles on it.My tranny will clunk usually when shifting to 2nd and 3rd and I have always considered it normal.

2006 Jeep Wranlger clunk!!

New member and I just got a 200p Wrangler X 6 speed manual with 54000 miles. It has a 4 inch Skyjacker lift kit with 33 inch tires. I've put 100k miles on a 98 Wrangler Sport but this has a "clunk" when I shift from time to time. Never experienced on my 98 so I'm wondering if this is normal due to the lift kit and large tires. I hate to unknowingly beat the transmission, please let me know your thoughts!!!!
