|massyj||I actually saw a good frame that's a couple hours from here. I gave it serious consideration. Then I came back to reality...where I'm poor, and lack able bodied buddies. I wish I could just swap the whole thing out, but not a realistic option right now. I think I'll be grabbing a section online and begging for welding help. Winter sneaks up fast, and it's my DD.|

|Ibuildembig||Actually its not that bad of a job at all and can be done in a two car space. The only special tools one would need is 3 buddies to pick the tubs off|

|MadMaxx||That would be my prefered method too but unfortunately some of us don't have a shop or even a garage large enough to take on such a big job... let alone the tools for it.|

|Ibuildembig||If it was me in your shoes and I wanted to keep the jeep, I would replace the frame with a rust free one. They aren't that expensive in the whole scheme of places that can rust.|

Great tips. I will check out those links...not now, but right now! I really need to learn how to weld. MadMaxx, keep us posted. I'd love to follow your progress.
Jeeps&comics, those pics look great...waiting for the rain to ease up so I can post mine. I also live in the northeast, so I truly appreciate the weather battle. I actually catch myself staring jealously at Jeeps with solid undercarriages.
Anyone have jimmy-rigging opinions on the shifter boot/center console issue in the meantime?

|jeeps&comics||yeah I did both sides as well.. drivers side wasn't nearly as bad,but still a little rusty and it was only like $120 for both sides so might as well|

|jeeps&comics||maybe slightly, but def not that bad. the PO had some homemade POS bumper/hitch welded to the frame, and when i took it off, it put a hole in my frame. then this past winter with all the snow/salt being up north in jersey just rotted it out like swiss cheese|

i'd say frame first as well. I don't know if you can weld over your holes, but i hit this guy up, and had a friend who's pretty darn good at welding weld in the pieces for me.

I am not sure yet if I will order one myself or if I will just try to fab my own rear frame rail.
Here are the springs that I ordered for my Jeep... They are just stock and I only got the fronts.
The 2 fronts cost me ~ $220 shipped.

Thanks for helping get my head back in order. I'm just frustrated because I'd thought I was already done w/ the frame...nope. Like you said, everything you do uncovers something else. There's a site that sells frame sections...anyone know the name of it? I can have my nephew fab another shock mount (he made the other rear upper).
About the leaf springs: which ones do I get? I'm lost when it comes to suspension, so I can't even tell if it's lifted or not. What do I look at to be sure? The PO made so many weird mods that it's always a challenge to figure out what's stock and what's not. It's basically a jigsaw jeep. I love it but it's so hard to get to know! Have I mentioned I'm NOT a mechanic...just stubborn.
Also, Should I pull the boot off in the meantime to give me some shifting room?

|Alexjk||I agree with them. But dont get discouraged... break it down in a list like that... say to yourself every weekend youre going to fix one problem, little by little eventually you'll have a solid tank....thats my plan anyway|

Those are the first three Items I would knock out if it were mine.

Post pictures of all your problem areas... If you need this as a daily driver then you are going to want to get the frame rot and shock mount repaired first.
If you plan on taking out the body lift and going with stock mounts then that may also fix your shifter problem.
If I had to give you an order it would probably be:
1. Rear Frame repair (you may also need to drop the gas tank to fix this which will probably uncover a host of new issues)
2. Shock mount. (Once those 2 have been completed it should be safe enough to drive)
3. Replace leaf springs
4. Body mounts/lift. (with a little luck getting rid of the lift will also fix the shifter issue)
5. Oil leak/rear main
6. Replace Exhaust.
7. Drivers seat belt
8. shifter (assuming that it still needs fixing).
Just remember that in the course of repairing all the issues above you are going to find many, many other things that need fixing.

Please help me prioritize
I'm having trouble deciding what to fix first, and I'm beginning to have Jeepicidal thoughts. I just can't prioritize because something new arises every time I do. Keep in mind, I don't think parting her out will get me the gas money to go shopping for another, so that's not an option right now. Here's my problems list:
6" area of frame rot (rear passenger side)
oil leak (probably rear main)
exhaust system disintegrating
rusted out rear upper shock mount (hanging on for dear life)
driver's belt anchor welded to floor (long story)
shifter boot vs center console battle (butting up, making 2nd gear a PITA)
old ass leaf springs
crusty old body lift (2"-3" foolishness)
Please give your honest opinions of what I should do now vs what I should do RIGHT NOW.
