|jgorm||I have one. I makes a lot of noise. It would be tricky to get water in there because the intake is offset from the cowl vent and there are 2 big drain holes in the cowl. If you need to move the stock intake this is a smog legal option. It didn't make any hp on my dyno tests.|

That's when you'd need one of the little cowl scoops over that opening to keep water from running over the hood and straight into the cowl.

|Cpt.jeeves||I have this kit seemed like a good idea, turned out to not be, I hydrolocked my engine the other night because a splash of water came over the hood and went into the cowl, needless to say the intake sucked it up. Other then that it does get a little loud/annoying at highway speed and for extended periods of time|

|Neil F.||The intake tube does connect to the cowl area infornt of the windshield. The intake opening in not in the bottom of the cowl. Any pooled water will go out the cowl drain. Druing a heavy rain with the engine running, some moisture could make the 90 bend and into the intake but mousture is not going to do anything to the motor. Damage occurs from a solid slug of water sufficent in volume to increase compression and or lock a cylinder. That's when parts break.|

|Cliffmelanie1||Would rain be an issue? Does the air come from the vent in front of the windshield? Just curious|

|sandro||I am very interested in this kit. Can anyone else that has installed the kit add anything to this? Also, I have read that it makes a hissing noise?|

|BFYTW||Yeah I seen this intake for the first time not long ago and I'm sold. I don't want a snorkel so IMO this is the next best thing. I can only assume as long as your cowl vent is above water your good to go. And it's still cheaper than the banks unit I was looking at (even though the banks filter is probably way better)|

|mrcarcrazy||interesting design. not a fan of it being metal...but I guess if you have extra cash that you wanted to spend it'd work. I wouldn't be interested in it due to the type of filter it requires you to use. Oiled gauze = bad filter IMO|

|Six Gun Matt||
I actually had mine installed by Spectre last May as a test subject (I am soo freaking lucky ). I have been very happy with this intake, but as stated, it is through the cowl, not inside the cab. I saw that episode this weekend and can be the first to tell you Ian was wrong. Nonetheless, it is still a great design, and does raise the intake point higher than stock. Here are some other threads about this intake:

WHOA...quadratec is actually cheaper!???
Maybe it is the cowl, I remember him talking about "fresh air from the cabin".
Either way, its still cleaner and cooler air.

|Barrie||Wow! Nice price difference. Thanks.|

|DevilDogDoc||That runs into the cowl not the cabin if it's the one I am thinking of.|

Thats also what Ian (4x4extreme) was talking about. It would keep unwanted water from getting into your filter.
If you plan on doing water crossings that will see water so deep its coming over your half doors , get the snorkel, lol.
I might just have to get one...

|p1zzaman||Also, wouldnt this kind of take the place of a snorkel? or does water get in that area of the cab in deep water?|
|09-18-2010 02:35 PM|
|Barrie||I would think it would also help with hydrolocking issues. I like it.|

|p1zzaman||I think that is a great idea! would save a lot of money on filters...|

Spectre in cabin CAI
I saw this on Extreme 4x4 on the TJ buldget build episode. Its a pretty intrigueing design. I know the whole hype about CAI on a TJ are useless and dont do anything. But this product seems like a great design for more productive and clean air. It will stop any trail dust and dirt from getting in the filter, and will also use the cooler, cleaner air from the cab of the jeep, instead of the hot dusty air in the engine bay.
Fairly price as well compared to some others intake setups...$222.99

Any one using it?...any thoughts??
