Are you talking about the rolls of tint seen at autozone and other places?

Side note: barggirl, GLWS but $200 for a pair of soft tinted uppers is what I paid for my used set of sliders. I have done the autozone $20 cling tint before with great success :

|biggus35||Just noticed we are replying to an almost 3 year old thread. That's funny.|

Well somebody makes them cause here's a link to some for sale...
Tinted Upper Door Skins '97 thru '06 Jeep Wrangler TJ or LJ
If the link does not work go to Augusta, GA craigslist and search "Wrangler" under the auto parts section. You might email the person and ask where they bought them.

|Chilly03||I own a window tinting business and did my half doors on my 03 TJ with the static cling stuff turned out great and inexpensive. My friend has had it on his for about 4 years with no issue. We also took some night shades tint spray and did my other friends 99 TJ turned out well but you have to tape everything off that you don't want sprayed.|

|Firemonkey||Please check, I'm interested in knowing if someone is making them.|

[QUOTE=Geoff@Bestop;806648]Certainly worth the time to do this, but I bet it's referring to the three back windows. Those are sold tinted. But again, I know I get a little "Bestop focused" - it's possible that someone else is selling tinted door windows.
I can check tomorrow while im at work, but im pretty sure it said tinted door skins. And I believe they were by Bestop. Ill check tomorrow and post when i get back home. I may be completely worng too, i wouldn't be the first time

If it was me, I'd probably try the tint film first. It's not that expensive. Then, if it just doesn't work, I'd go for the more "extreme" solutions involving the boat canvas guys.
Or, go with SonofaBeach's suggestion

|Neil F.||From posts, they do show up on ebay from time to time so keep watching.|

|99wranglertj||I work at an autozone, and ive looked in a big book o' stuff and they list a set of tinted window skins for wrangler's. I haven't looked it up to see if we can get it for sure, but if you go to your nearest autozone store and ask them to look in that book they should do it no problem. Tell them it will be in the section called "Jeep Accessories."|

Find a vinyl graphics shop, or look on ebay auctions for people that sell the headlight tinting film. Most sellers have it in large enough rolls to cut you two pieces to fit. They can be measured from the inside of the upper door, to ensure best fitment, and then applied on the outside of the upper window.
It should work just fine on the plastic. I had them on my Supra for about 8 years before I finally decided to get the glass headlights instead, and they looked fantastic. Never peeled or scratched.
Could always experimet with a scrap piece or two if you can get your hands on it.

I think I might have to contact one of the local boatyards. They might be able to put me in contact with someone who can make me a tinted skin, or maybe even just replace the window portion of the skins I have.
If they can make enclosures for the back of a yacht, they can handle my TJ skins...I just hope they don't want to charge me like its a yacht!

I can't speak for any other companies that make upper doors, but Bestop has to follow the DOT rules for 50-state compatibility. So we don't sell uppers that are tinted.
I'm not sure if the states that allow darker tint are legally allowing it, or just ignoring the rules. But obviously places like AZ and Florida "allow" dark tint on the front and drivers windows.
Unfortunately, I have never heard of successfully applying a tint to the vinyl window glass. So like Kerner says, expect bubbles, and expect it to not last that long.

I hate driving behind vehicles with tinted windows. I need to see whats going on in front of them since most drivers around here do not look past the edge of their hoods and slam on their brakes all the time. Espically at 65mph since they do not see the slower car coming up. And they are on that most important call on their cell.
I really laugh at the idiot that runs up to the back of an 18 wheeler like he just showed up in front of them.

|Firemonkey||Yeah, that would be worth investigating - thanks for the idea!|

|Kerner||Thought about ripping out the clear vinyl and having a auto upholstery shop do tinted vinyl?|

|10-06-2010 08:28 PM|
|Kerner||Vinyl (static) cling on window tint, not the best, there will be some bubbles when done, but it does work fairly well otherwise. Autozone has it.|

|YJjeep||Id like to do this to my rig also. Thatd look good.|

Tinted windows for half doors?
I live in FL, and leave the doors and windows off about 90% of the time. But when I have the doors and windows on, I would really like to have tinted windows all the way around. I know I can get the 3 tinted windows for the soft top, but what about the half doors? Anyone ever see tinted door skins?
Slider windows are way too expensive just to be able to apply window film
I know that many states frown upon tint on the front windows, but down here in FL even the cop cars have 50% tint to keep the hot sun out!
