Sorry I missed this earlier. It's a stock decal he bought off eBay. Just search for navy seal decal and it will come up, along with a bunch of others.

Well, according to our Secret Squirrel they are put on bare metal to bare metal. If I'm going to trust anyone's word on how they are built at the factory, it's his. I've never known him to make a mistake on anything he's told us.

Maybe they are all primed like what I got. Then maybe they're all thrown in a bin together and the threaded posts scar the backsides of the hinge and gives an opening for corrosion.

I would say nothing powered, but I have a little perspective on that. When I was a kid my uncle had an old school Willy's. Not even the wipers were powered. There was a knob in the middle of the dash you moved back and forth to wipe the windshield. He had a 350 corvette engine in it with 4:10 gears. It could do wheelies on the street. That was a true Willy's Wheeler, I guess.

By comparison, mine will be a plush luxury vehicle. Still, manual locks, manual transmission and crank windows is about as low tech as it gets now.

When I told the salesperson that I wanted stick and crank windows he just stared at me for a few seconds. My wife made fun of me all the way home. She suggested we could ask for one without a gas cap and just shove a rag in it.

close, but there is no apostrophe in Willys. It's a proper name, not possessive. But welcome to the group. Hope you are lucky and have a short wait.

He originally said it would be repainted and blended in from the hood to the rear quarter panel to make it right. Since he only lost one decal, it's obvious they didn't do what they originally stated. But since it was warranty work, paid by the dealership, I didn't get any paperwork. I should have pressed harder, I know. I'm kicking myself now.

When the jeeps are built, the hinges are installed before it ever hits the primer booth. So the aluminum hinges are installed directly on the steel tub, with NOTHING in between the two dissimilar metals, which causes galvanic corrosion. Evidently this has been the SOP since the JK came out.

In 2007-08 there was a TSB, but it was never updated for future years. Chrysler just warranties it for people who complain. I wonder how many people have had this happen and assumed it was rust and either fixed it on their nickel or just let it corrode because they didn't want to spend the money to get it fixed...

I guess you got lucky with your half door hinges, Kerry. You are correct in the all assembled, THEN painted theory.

This time they said they removed all the hinges and primed/painted underneath. It comes with a lifetime warranty, so if it's wrong, I will be back and next time I won't be as accommodating. And I'm not accepting less than perfect on MY jeep, because mine is still perfect. I haven't taken my doors off yet (I know, sacrilege! ), so I don't have any dings.

I would say that, at least in the Southeast, 27k for a sub-3000-mile 4-door Willys automatic is a pretty good deal. There may be some folks who got a new one for that (I really only follow the 2-door pricing), but not many. Is that the "drop dead final price," or the "here's my asking" price?

It is a great price compared to any dealer pricing I've ever seen on used Unlimiteds, but don't know about private party or trade-in value. (And by "dealer" I include the side-of-the-road lots that love to get in Wranglers.)That would be a $33,000 asking price at a dealer lot in Atlanta (after they installed their customary side step rails, tire shine, etc.) If they put their Dealer-Installed 3" lift package on, it's a $39,000 asking price, or more.

Around here the dealers do seem to shy away from manual trans and manual window/door packages, particularly on 4 doors. I think you said yours is manual windows/doors, so that may limit your dealer interest a little bit on the trade.

DonJulio ^In that case pull the trigger. I misunderstood because I was under the impression that you didn't feel like waiting for the hardrock and wanted to get the Willys instead.
billyo2222 Oh I'm definitely planning on the hardrock long term and hydro is available. There is talk of possible red leather making a return and it sounds like they are at least going to do red stitching on the black. Plus I'd like to see what the new x package may be and what plum crazy is going to be available on! I'm just not sure how long I'll be waiting for things to sort out, probably at least 3 months. The willys is private sale so I can get a tax break now plus an even bigger one on trade in. I just figured if I can get 27k out of the willys on trade I could drive a jeep now, get back out of it even, plus save about 2k in sales tax on the new one. So essentially I'd be almost 2k to the good plus have a hydro jeep to drive for a few months..

I sold my 08 unlimited rubicon in June and my family is going crazy without a jeep. I was looking for something to just get us by but at a good price so I could just trade it in and come out even or a little ahead . Well I've come across a hydro unlimited willys with 2,600 miles. It is not the w but does have hard top, a/c, auto, and cruise. I can buy it for $27,500. Is it worth it? Should I pull the trigger?
If I were you I would wait to get a 2015 Hardrock edition. A) Because it sounds like thats the model you really want. B) It has an effin awesome stereo!. And lastly C) because from my understanding hydro blue is offered on the 2015.

Service manager had to take pictures and submit to Chrysler. It took about two days for him to get approval. Then it took another three days to get approval for a rental, because we had already had it in to be fixed once and it wasn't, and this repair was going to take so much longer because of the extra corrosion damage.

Good luck! I hope your dealership has an awesome body shop!
Can you show us some photos of the repair work?
