Unless you live in the boonies, there should be a reasonable option nearby. And with a Jeep, they want your service and its not like youre getting loaners for oil changes, so going a little farther for the right deal should be worth it.

I ended up at Rt4, despite bad reviews from some, I had an excellent experience.

I actually never even paid the Tread Lightly donation, I mentioned 1% under invoice and he matched it for me because I was ready to order that day. Those buying now should try that if they want.

Ive been AWOL Star, but the wife wtills loves "Willy". Just got her some new tires as well.
Hey Patrick! Glad to hear your wife is still in love. Glad to see you back!

Since any dealership will service the warranty, I've never been too concerned with buying outside my local area. (With the exception of my current dealer) I've never been treated any better going back to the original dealership, and actually it's been my experience that I was treated WORSE at the original dealer than going somewhere else for warranty work on my Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. That could also be a florida issue though; my dealer here in Texas has been AMAZING. I love the guys there. Whenever I go in I always wind up with a crowd of salesmen around me wanting to know about what new things I've heard and showing off all my mods.

All Terrain JK I'm in Jackson MI which is right on I94, pretty much the same weather as Chicago with a bit more lake effect snow.

I can tell you from first hand experience it's nice having the warmer weather (I moved from Chicago to richmond). That being said, I still love snow and it's nice having mountains an hour away. Now with the jeep I can go play in the snow.

We did get 4 snow storms here last winter which is rare, but we loved it. We also get actual seasons here instead of brutal winter and brutal summer in Chicago.

That's the first thing I'd do! You guys are lucky with all the early snow up in the mountains. I'll have to wait until at least December before the mountains get any here.

Razer Mine dribbled when I bought it. Lubed all the seals with shin-etsu and it still leaked. A month later and now it doesn't leak. Only thing I can think of is that the seals were hard/dry, and it took the grease a bit of time to soften them up.

I second the above comment. I got my 2014 JK WW through USAA and used the military discount. You should at least look into. USAA also has good rates on auto loans... Don

SteelonSteel Yep, I tried the Truecar for an order, I talked to their internet sales gal, got a price and a 4 week til delivery advice. Great, I drove an hour and 20 minutes. Manager not in, salesman tells Jeep isn't taking orders on the 15 yet. (wrong) I'm guessing it was a dipshit salesman or they had no order quota left.

I got close to the same price at a non true car dealer. I find if you walk in with a handful of numbers and talk like you've already done your research they can be quite competitive. Funny I went to the same dealer when I was grabbing catalogs and kicking tires and I got the no way on invoice, they go for a two to three hundred dollars under sticker. I realize they have to try.

Going to miss them as we are flying out to San Diego for a week to see our son's graduation from Marine Corps basic training. He will be coming back with us and he has not seen the Willys yet. We rented a mini van, I feel so dirty lol.
Damn what size tires are on the Willys?

I only did 2 coats of the spray because I still wanted light to me omitted at night. It worked great and I am very pleased!
Does anyone make a vinyl cutout just for the side marker?

If they won't give that information, broken down to show vehicle costs plus TTL, I cross their dealership off my list and move on to someone who WILL honor my instructions. If they can't follow the instructions in my original request, how will they handle anything else?

I will admit, I am a when it comes to negotiating a new vehicle purchase. I don't want to waste their time, so I do all my own research, in advance, and come to them with a very specific request. In return for not wanting their time, I expect them to return the favor.

I'm also willing to drive up to 200 miles to find a dealership that will work on my terms. If you're not getting the responses you're looking for from a local dealer, you might want to consider widening your search.

Discounts on dealer stock vs. ordered vehicles depends on the dealership. Lots of dealers wont do better than the TreadLightly 1-2% either way, so that takes care of that. But some dealers are willing to give you a better discount on an ordered vehicle, since they know you want it and will pick it up immediately and avoid any holding costs they would have for that vehicle, which translates into more profit for them. You just have to find the right dealer.

If you tell us where you're from, maybe someone here could direct you to a good dealer close to you.

I've been emailing dealerships for their best prices and they're all telling me to come down to chat. I've explained multiple times that I'm ready to buy but I'm busy with work. (I actually already have my loan ready)

Quite frustrating to say the least.

Thanks again!
Not sure how car dealerships make their money and I get the idea it's fairly complicated and tough to really figure out from the outside. I also get the impression (from spending WAAAAY too much time in this forum!) that 'in stock' is not likely to be better priced but I guess that's a case-by-case basis.

Long story short on my journey:
- Visited TrueCar.com and specified the Jeep exactly as I wanted
- Instantly, they give you a TrueCar Guarantee from a number of local dealers supposedly stating the best price available in your area.
- That evening into the next morning received emails from the Internet Sales Department of those dealers. I think it was Teterboro Jeep, Major Jeep and Rockland Jeep.

I already read hundreds of pages on this site and had a general idea of what people considered a 'good price' on a Wrangler. There were also 'group buys' going on in DC, etc where you could get 5.5% below Dealer Invoice. So, I decided what TO ME felt would be a fair price (3-4% below Dealer Invoice). I wasn't focused on getting the LOWEST POSSIBLE price but I didn't want to 'overpay' and for both these points it is a personal opinion/decision.

I chose Rockland Jeep because of proximity and process. Their approach was more 'comfortable' than the other dealers. Also, good reviews on Dealerrater.com, etc. So, one fine Sunday went with my wife and the rest is history. So far, very happy but the sale is not yet completed so remains to be seen! Will let you know once my Jeep arrives!

Hope this answers your questions but keep in mind this is the 'short story'! This is the easiest it has been for me to buy a car but I'm 50+ with many bad experiences to learn from!
