|Scout||Hey glad to hear it all worked out!|
|05-19-2007 09:16 PM|
Soft top is installed, and in very good shape. drbjeep saved my life I got the new top in just before the rain storm hit. The top is better than my old one, and scout was 100% right when he said the black looks better than the kahki on our kahki jeeps.
Thanks again scout and drbjeep, I appreciate your efforts Drbjeep is a super nice guy btw, with an amazing motorcycle Lucky guy
Anyway, this thread can be deleted now since it had no purpose than me bitching and scout offering me a top. Thanks for letting me vent though

Heh, well I couldnt afford to rent a car, since I am under 25 and they wanted over 130 bucks just to rent it for a few hours Even home depot wanted like 100 bucks for a pickup for 5 hours
I am gonna pickup and SUV from my fathers dealership and go on a "test drive" and drop it back off tonite With my luck im gonna wreck it lol.
(Maybe scout solution should involve a soft top arriving tommorrow night) Just playing with you scout, good luck selling that thing. Remember not to ship it

Update: Was supposed to drive 2 hours each way to look at drbjeeps top today. Looks like that isnt going to happen, since my rear main seal just broke loose.........
I swear I have the worse luck...... Anywho, looks like my ghetto safari top has to come off so it can go to the dealership on monday. Dunno what I am gonna do about a top still. Hopefully the stupid Jeep doesnt break down while I drive 10 miles up teh road to my doctors appointment. I got to get a sonagram done today, and my Jeep is my only ride
I guess I will keep this thread up to date since its the only thing keeping me from setting fire to it. Maybe ill go waste some money at Avis and get a pickup to take to PA..
More to come later.

|Triple88a||Glue it.. take a slice of strong fabric with same/similar color to your top.. put glue on one end, put it under the ripped spot and align the 2 sides together.. works like charm..|

Does Bestop make ANY tops that come with the frame and fabric that are close to OEM? This guy I know thats big into CJs said he could get me a bestop top, with tinted windows and frame, identical to OEM for 550 shipped. Only thing I can find is a Supertop which isnt even close to OEM, and the Repalce-a-top but that doesnt have a frame
Anyone know what hes talking about?
btw, I am going to check out the top in Manheim PA after my sonagram on saturday, so I might not need an aftermarket anyway but its nice to know.

|Scout||Did you check your PM?|
|05-17-2007 11:59 AM|
|JCS05Rubi||Yes I still need a top, but I NEED the frame AND fabric, and the windows are pretty shot too. Not only is the frame torqued way outa proportion, the fabric is ripped at like 4 seams|
|05-17-2007 08:12 AM|
Do you still need the frame ? I've got two extras but historically we've used one a year usually. If you post on www.bmja.org wanted section I bet you find a complete OEM stock frame for less than $100... I've seen some complete tops in there too but I'm good with two spares for that also.

My buddy from VA said he played with one back home and was anything but impressed. Said it was deffinatly not what they advertise, and the fit and finish isnt very good
But thats all hersay. I think ill stick with a factory top, and just spend the 100 bucks on a safari bikini. If it rains all I got to do is switch em real quick, and I never have to worry about fit and finish as long as I dont destory the new mopar frame..

|Triple88a||Viking top is the only full top on my list for now|

(If you have to sew stuff like that use dental floss, I used to sew up my fight equipment with it and it held really nice.)

Ok, I got a ghetto top. LoL. I took a propane torch and a 12 foot pvc pipe (all I had for leverage) and tried to bend it back as close as normal. Looked pretty darn close too... Till I get it back on the Jeep....
It folded up and down fine this time, but the Right Rear corner snap thing was too loose.. it would have popped outa place as soon as I hit the highway. So I tried to stitch it tighter. Spent a little while doing that, got it all pretty (ish) and was gonna duct tape the inside to water seal it. As soon as I snaped the corner in, all the threads popped and the hole opened back up.
My solution? Hook the top up like normal (minus the door surrounds and windows), cut the plastic belt thing off with my 6" bowie knife, cut the corner flap in half, and knot it to my bent rear bar that I attempted to straighten out
Done. Coulda been done faster, but alteast this way on friday when it rains, all I have to do is put my doors on and only the trunk will get wet instead of everything...

Don't need a sewing machine. But, you can punch holes through the roll of fabric and weave the rope in and out. That would give you something to tie it down across the roll cage to keep it tight. You need enough folds of the fabric not to rip, or stick a dowl in the roll so the rope doesn't pull through.
Next, I'll tell you how to make a bomb with a mayonaise jar, a length of rope, and cinnamon gum.
|05-16-2007 08:02 PM|
I dont like you Mrs. McGiver. Anywho, I am going to go see if I can figure something out..despite the fact that I dont have a stapler or a sewing machine
|05-16-2007 07:59 PM|
|tiny terror||Well.... if you're just throwing the other top away cut the back part off leaving enough to roll a few layers of fabric to just behind the roll cage. Run a rope through the fold and staple the whole thing across. Now hook the latches, put in the drip channels and tie the rope however you have to to keep it tight. Quick and dirty bikini top. Won't last forever, but should be ok for a little bit.|

If you really must know..
The plastic bags are for my seats/dash incase of sudden quick downpours when parked, and for trash bags when wheeling. The duct tape was from taping up that hole the night I did it, because it rain. Unfortunatly, as soon as I drove it, the top flapped and riped the duct tape off, so I just removed teh top altogether.
I forgot the duct tape was still in there. Must have kept it under the seats, beacuse everyone can always use some duct tape
Now leave me alone, unless you have a constuctive idea for BEFORE i do something
|05-16-2007 07:39 PM|
|tiny terror||So..... why'd you have them in there if not for this? Weird. Very very weird.|
|05-16-2007 07:34 PM|
Screw you tiny. I had 2 rolls of duct tape in my Jeep, and 5 plastic bags, and NOW YOUR TELL ME TO USE THEM!!!
I am an idiot.
|05-16-2007 07:31 PM|
Who said owning a jeep was all shites and giggles?
You should carry duct tape and black plastic.... though it makes one look like a serial killer, it's a good investment when you don't have a top.
|05-16-2007 07:30 PM|
|JCS05Rubi||That look wasnt very fun driving home in a downpour, trying to hold a plastic bag over my instrument panel/radio at 40 mph....|

Thanks for the advice scout. drbjeep, please send me some pics to firstname.lastname@example.org
Please let me know condition of windows, top etc. (even been sewn, needs to be sewn, etc.)
Thanks you 2. I am deffinatly going to be picking between you 2 or an aftermarket top before saturday (hopefully) since I just drove through a torrential downfall.....
