Too late. Blamed!
|10-14-2010 03:31 PM|
I work for one of the insurance companies commonly mentioned, and have my own personal insurance with another company commonly mentioned. I can't get great rates with my own company! What's wrong with that!
BTW, I don't work in the auto side of the house so don't blame me for any auto related problems.

|phantomofrussia||My family has been with Geico for the past 15-16 years now. They were pretty much the only insurance company that would insure my dads car when we got here from Russia, so my parents are pretty loyal with them. They have also been very good in claims and customer service. In addition they let us get repairs at our mechanic when the repair is for an accident. I will most likely be staying with them once I get my Jeep. But yeah, so far my parents have had no problems with Geico in the 15 years we have been with them. (knock on wood)|

I've had almost everything... my wife REALLY likes to back into stuff. (to include a police cruiser and BOTH of my Jeeps! bought the JK in DEC and she backed into it in FEB... busted her window, dented her door, NO jeep damage, and she has a nice breeze in her van to this day...) I had good luck with progressive covering a few claims, but then they dropped us... Geico's claim response was horrific. Allstate got SCREWED by the shop that fixed my wife's truck last time, and I told em, and they did nothing (no bickering about the claim though, as long as it went to the shop they liked... the one that added a bunch of extras to the bill...?)
USAA has not given us any flak at all, we have the lowest deductable we've ever had, because they are cheap enough we can afford it, and they've covered 2 mishaps so far without changing our rate. After having been with them for two years, they also extended the coverage term out to 18 months (I think) at a time, so we hardly ever have to mess with the flippin cards even If they've opened to non-vets, I'd definitely look into it.

I've had Progressive for the past 14 years... and for the most part it's been ok... until you have to deal with an accident claim. I have had 3 claims with them in those 14 years and each and every time my vehicle repairs were done like crap. Granted most of this is due to the shop's plain ineptness, but since Progressive pretty much dictates where you take your car for repairs I tend to lay the same amount of blame on them. Most recent was with my 03 PT Cruiser GT. The panel fitting and paint repair probably could have been done better by a bunch of blind monkeys with hammers, strung out on crack. On top of that half the replacement parts were cheap aftermarket knockoffs and things that worked prior to the repair were now broken or didn't work properly. Finally after a month and 3 visits to the shop along with countless phone calls, I finally have a car that somewhat resembles the car prior to the accident.
Needless to say once I get my deductible back and finally get this fiasco behind me I will be switching to Allstate.. At the very least I'll get a discount for having my home owners with them as well.
Oh yeah whenever I see Flo on a Progressive commercial I get the strange urge to want to stuff the Gieco Gecko down her throat.

We have 21st Century now. They are a division of Farmers.
We carry pretty good coverage and low deductibles and they even have a way of working with you on modified vehicles.
I initially found them when I saw a note on my statement for the Jeep payment to get "Jeep Insurance"
Back then they were AIG, but since the big bail out they were sold off to Farmers.
We have had to have windshields replaced only, but they have been very good to us and our premiums are certainly a lot lower than they were with Allstate. For about $140 a month the truck, Jeep and trailer are all have full coverage with $250 collision ded. and $50 comp ded.

My dad had a horrible issue with State Farm when he was younger...he was going through a gas station and took a woman's door off when her kid flung it open right as he was driving past. A cop witnessed it and while he couldn't cite her (private property) he did offer a statement to my dad's insurance company vouching for him that it wasn't his fault. State Farm ended up harrassed by the woman's insurance company and they demanded that my dad pay her for the damages (they refused to cover it). My dad refused stating that he was not at fault and they dropped him. He will never go back and I will never consider them.
We used Allstate after that...no complaints there. They treated my dad well even after his DUI and the rates are very reasonable especially once you develop a good history with them.
When I bought the Jeep and got off my dad's policy, I went with Geico...for a new customer, their rates were reasonable (Progressive was cheaper, but I've heard they are a B*TCH to deal with when you have to file a claim) so I went with Geico. I also was in the process of dealing with Geico in regards to a drunk driver who destroyed my boss' fence one night when he missed the curve in the road. Geico handled the situation exceptionally well...the claims department woman stayed in touch constantly and she was extremely friendly. They won my business.
Something else that helped me decide...when they first started out, they were only available for government employees and their families or something like that (Government Employee Insurance COmpany). Being that exclusive, you know they have to be pretty decent.

Dude...i pray my kids don't screw me like that!! GEEZ!!

Actually I heard an ad for USAA on the radio yesterday. It seems they must need new business becasue the commercial stated they are opening up to non military. "We have serviced military service people for years and we are now extending this to everyone." Can't hurt to try.

Safeco for our driver vehicles....Hagerty for all the others
Nothing beats Hagerty for ones that are worth more than book value. Brother in law had is 57 chevy get caught in a flood 3 years ago. Sat with water over the roof for 10 hours. Hagerty paid out 100 percent and let him keep the car. After we fixed it, they reinsured it with no questions.

|530ktm||I have State Farm and they have been great for the last 25 years. I have all my vehicles and my home insured with them. I guess they screw with you if you have too many tickets which I am proud to say I have not had any for many years.|

I got a real education after my Jeep was stolen earlier this year. I happened to have AAA and the independent adjuster that handled my claim said I would likely come out fine with AAA. He also really clued me in on the various other companies out there.
First, he said AAA was less likely to quibble about claims since they are a not-for-profit member-owned insurance company. After turning in my long Excel spreadsheet and documentation of all the parts/enhancements/etc. that were on my stolen Jeep, he said I would have been screwed if I had been with Geico, Farmers, State Farm, and a few others. They would have paid off the bare minimum after ignoring my list of add-ons & probably dropped me for not having told them it was used heavily offroad.
With just basic AAA insurance without my previously having told them about the 24K worth of add-ons on my Jeep, they paid on the average half of what I paid for everything, even the old items. The only thing they didn't pay for was my Diehard Platinum battery which was considered a maintenance item.
The bottom line is AAA paid me more than double what anyone else would have. I still didn't get enough $$$ to build a new Jeep like I had before but thank God for what they did pay me... more than double what they could have paid me.
I will NEVER leave AAA now, they treated me extremely well and I didn't even have to push them or negotiate for that much higher than expected payout. The independent adjuster they hired for my case told me how many times people got screwed but that I would likely come out pretty well. He was right.

That's nothing, my driving record when I was 16-20 was horrid. and would have been much worse if I'd have stopped for 1/2 the cops trying to pull me over.
Regarding My insurance, Insuring the Jeep was cheap everywhere, insuring the Lotus, was impossible through a few, and insanely expensive through others.

My 12yr old....Everyone should fear for they're life in a few years..OR he will be in fear of his own life if he's not responsible
EDIT: Allstate....I switched to them when i bought a house, got a discount for multiple policies.

I had Travellers when I bought my first jeep back in 1980. I had a drunk guy with no lights on hit me broad side at 60 mph one night while I was crossing a highway. The Sheriff gave me a ticket for failing to yield him the right of way. Travellers paid to repair my Jeep then cancelled my insurance. I had to sell my pride and joy after just two years because my insurance was so high I couldn't afford my Jeep payments. After that I had Metropolitan for thirty years and never had a ticket. I tried every few years to beat their price but never could. Then my two kids started driving....
three speeding tickets.
A wreckless driving ticket.
2 broken windshields.
Ran the car in a ditch and wrecked the car.
2 wreckless driving tickets (One from her best friends policeman dad that I carried to ball practice and coached for three years)
Ran completely over a kid that jumped on the hood (medflight kid was okay)
2 broken windshields
2 spededing tickets
Driving a new 2008 Hyundai
...and totaled the car which made them check records and thus cancel my 30 year old policy.
Now I have Progressive and I am very happy with them so far....and the kids are on thier own.

|Boosta||Unfortunately you have a record! So it will be hard for you to get any decent insurance even thoug hthey say it falls off in 3 years. I would try USAA, then Progressive or Geico.|
