Last Tue I got myself an '88 Laredo, which I had found on Craigslist. Got around 120k miles, with a rebuild I6 engine installed at around 68k miles. However, I realize it's actually got more miles, since it has 32 inch tires which cause the speed and the OD to read low. I may try to fix that sometime in the future.
It's maroon, with a white hard top, and gray soft and bikini tops. 32 inch Wrangler AT/S tires, mounted on 15" Crager rims. Also came with the orginal tires mounted on Jeep rims. 2 lockboxes, sound/light bar, 12 CD changer, chromed front and rear bumpers (although annoyingly blocking use of the front tow hooks) are a couple of small things that were added.
I changed out the old oil right away as the Jeep hadn't been used regularily for a few years with Valvoline 10W-30 high milage semi-sinthetic, and a Wicks oil filter, to replace that POS Fram. I am going to change the transmission, diff, and transfer case oils, and lube where needed. I do need help with that though, so look for my thread I'll post about that here in a little while. Also added the missing carb pre-heat hose.
It, of course, does have a couple of problems. Hard cold weather starting, according to the previous owner, as well as some carb issues. I'm going to install a frost plug block heater before the buy one get one antifreeze deal runs out at the end of the month at O'Reilly's. Got rust, not to bad, IMO, for an '88 in Illinois. Driver floorpan needs patching or replacing, eventually, as well as some of the driver side (sub frame?) beams. Got alot more rust on the driver's side, it's kinda wierd, IMO. The front brake, which they replaced, is leaking a little, do to (I hope) him not installing the new copper gaskets that came with the caliper. Brakes could also use another bleeding, so this'll just go together. It lacks power, I think mainly do to a stretched throttle cable (only opens carb a little over half-way).
Anyhow, it's freaking awesome! I'm glad I bought a Jeep to use for the winter when I can't ride my Suzuki Bandit 1200S, instead of buying a Ranger or a car. I'll fix the problems as they pop up and as time allows. I'll post pics tonight or tomorrow, I'm currently at work and typed this entire post on my phone.
