This Jeep has an auto tranny, which I believe is a good unit. This is the same Jeep I have. The transfer case is the oddball NP-207, which has no aftermarket support that I know of. If you ever want more than 4" of lift you will need a new T-case. Also, the carb will need replaced, the stock carb is notoriously junk. You can get a weber for a few hunded bucks or fuel injection for a grand. I hate to throw all the negative points at you, but you need to know.
That price does seem a bit high to me, but like GrandpaJeeper said check out KBB.com, Edmunds.com, and NADA.com to get a good idea of what it is really worth. Any extras might increase the value a little bit.

|4Jeepn||The 87 used the much disliked BA10 transmission., and the np 207(?) T-case as I recall which are both a bit odd ball units. Thus check it out really really good if you decided you want to buy it. If I where looking for a YJ I would look at 91 and newer, for Fuel injection vs carb's. But if you looking to strip everything off and the body is not to bad then it might be a good deal.|

I wish I could help you, but I really am not famiiar with the engine on the early YJs. I would say that is probably a bit more than I would pay.
I'd start at offering $2700, if it were me. If you see very little rust, there is tons of it you can't see. Hard to find a jeep as old as that with no rust though.

Hello all question i'm looking at a 87 wrangler auto 4.2 v6 101000 miles 1" lift very little rust...hard top..cd...they are asking 3600$ far price? how low do you think i should go?
