If you choose to rebuild it, it's a good time to upgrade to a slip yoke eliminator. You can also beef it up with stronger than stock components.
Thanks I will take a look - I guess my biggest issue is budget at this point - I am trying 2 get the Jeep running and driving (without leaks) and everything working without breaking the bank - Bill

chensley IMO, Having it rebuilt could fix the problem, but for how long?
Usually you can get a warranty with the new unit.

Re-build or buy??

So I "believe" my transfer case is bad - I cannot get it 2 shift into 4wd at all + the rear seal is leaking like a straw. I bought the Jeep (92 -6cyl-5spd) from a fella who said he had just rebuilt the case but I dont know?!?! anyway - I am wondering what you guys think - should I just buy a np231 - I can get one 2 the house 4 about $250 - or should have my old unit gone thru - cuz I know very little about a transfer case myself but I can remove and install one. I am leaning tword buying one cuz by the time I have one rebuilt I am sure I will have more than $250 tied up in it - What do u think?? let me know? - Bill
