casting no for 80-88 amc is 117, and 403 chrysler. be certain of temp switch in head or not, best machinist in ft worth says if same, will work.

|Garyk||My brother-inlaw has a few blocks, one is an 87 that ran pretty good. Was thinking of going thru it, change the cam etc and was hoping the head on mine would fit. Everything I read in Haynes says they are basically the same block...but like you said...who the hell knows??|

don't know, remember that chrysler bought jeep when amc folded. new things? i would seek best machine shop in area and ask. most are good at cross reference, still ck all numbers. recently got ford head same casting but different valves, still works but one more thing to keep up with.

|Garyk||I wonder is a 94 2.5 would fit on an 87 block?|

2.5 head and gasket problems
just joined this forum to share hard learned lesson. own 87 wrangler with 2.5 and goes thru gaskets like crazy, until now. be cautious buying gaskets. fel-pro offers same product 87 on, not right. 87 and 88 use stamped steel only. did not know until bought real manual. mods from 89 on make composite gaskets just another blown gasket. the 2.5 head is same as chevy, same crap head, same problems. if new head needed, make sure all numbers match, not cheapest head. hope i helped someone
