jrspb Appreciate the info. Oil is not coming out dip stick or oil cap. Probably best
if I have it checked out by someone who knows "where" the manifold is
located Of course, I will "google" that so I am informed.

Thanks again,

crafty Older engines get blow-by. Normal and should not be a major concern. If it is coming up dipstick tube and out oil cap then you have a bigger problem. Can also be caused by a cracked exhaust manifold. Check were all the individual pipes come together. They tend to crack there and can be welded and beefed up abit.

Oil in bottom air filter housing

Appreciate the responses. Have not had the vehicle off road...strictly
city driving.

There is a hose that runs across the bottom of the housing. ( I am mechanically challenged I cleaned out the bottom on the inside of
the housing. If it is blowing back in thru this hose, does that present
another "bigger" problem?

Love driving the Wrangler. The fellow that had it before kept excellent
records and maintained the vehicle. It has 188,000 miles and runs

Any help would be appreciated. This Jeep belonged to my daughter until I borrowed it after my 1998 Intrepid went thru its 3rd engine. Everyone
knew Dodge had a problem with the engines except "Dodge"

At 61, you're never too "mature" for Jeeping

DataByte isn't there a breather hose that runs into the bottom of that box? I can't remember. If there is, I wonder if it's gear oil from whatever breather backed up....

Sorry.. I'm a JK guy, the engine problems usually are not the same.

crafty Have you been running without an air filter and the blow-by settled in the bottom of the box. And I know this will sound dump but, have you been playing in the mud down here lately and get a mix in the box?

1988 Wrangler, 4cyl 4x4: Was checking fluids in Jeep this morning. Went
to check the "Air Filter" and noticed a pool of oil in the bottom of the
housing for the filter....Can anyone explain?
