We gave up. We thought it was really cool, but did not own a GPS device. We would just read the clues and take a good peak at a google satellite image and get out there. We found almost everyone we looked for. But we got tired of finding a broken stick or piece of trash or someone's ratty wallet business card in the cache when we were bringing along really cool prizes to swap out.
I still think it's an awesome idea though. There is another similar thing called stamp something or another, I used to take the little girls I looked after to do this one - Letterboxing North America yeah, that's it, letter boxing.
Anyway, happy geocaching all! I actually still have a Jeep Coin that needs to be placed into another geocache location, poor dude that left it must be waiting for it to show back up somewhere; this is a good reminder.

The little guys are a kick to go caching with sometimes.
Not when there are a zillion micros, but when looking for full sized caches.
I did a search in the Turkey Bay area today. I have been dying to go there and thought some of my friends were going to go with me sometime, but we haven't worked it out yet. There are, umm... one or two!

Hey! I'm a cacher too!
Where are you located?

I got my Jeep because of Geocaching, I saw and rode in several Wranglers while going out caching. I liked the experience so much that when I started thinking about a new vehicle I just had to get a Wrangler, love the whole topless thing!
It would be cool to have a subcategory for the caching Jeepers here. Maybe among the other community groups.

|multisonic||My girlfriend and I have been geocaching for about 2 years regularly. We travel a LOT which fits perfect with the sport. And off-roading goes perfect with that as well. We like to create caches in our area and hide them in the most difficult to get to places. Not dangerous really, just very difficult. It makes the prize at the end so much more worth the trip.|

|csamn2007||lol yeah it is A LOT of fun. i usually go with a few friends make a day out of it.|

!!! best geocache story ever!!
|12-22-2008 11:37 PM|
Since this thread just got dragged out (and I'm finally reading it), I got a quick story about how I found out what geocaching is.
I'm home one weekday because I have to take the wife in for thumb surgery. As we have to go to the Naval Medical Center, and she's gonna be there for hours and hours, I decide to drop her and come home and get a few chores done.
So, I'm standing on my front porch which is about 45' above street level as we live on a hill, having a smoke and mostly minding my own business, when this car pulls up, a guy gets out and starts walking up and down the street and generally acting suspisious.
He doesn't notice me, so I just watch as he gets something from his car and seems like he's mounting something on the telephone pole across the street. Then, he sprints back to his car and tears off. I go down to see just what the eff that was all about, and get about 20' from the pole and see about 5" of black pipe with caps, now mounted to the pole. So... I call the sheriff, who eventually comes out, blocks the road and gets the bomb squad to blow this pipe bomb looking thing off the pole.
Turns out, it was a geocache.
Figured that out by sorting thru the debris after the bomb squad sucessfully blew it off the pole. Cops were laughing their a$$es off!
Funny thing is, after I got home from picking up my wife (late of course) a couple guys pull up in their jeeps with GPS handhelds and start looking around...
ONE of them is on this forum too. I have his coordiates if someone wants to look him up!

I'm gonna check out the website. Thanks pointy!

|4point||There's a magazine 4wheeldrive & Sport Utility that actually stashes off roading (certificates) goodies out in the desert. They post hints to it on their website.|
|12-22-2008 06:29 PM|
We're going to go out to try to find some stashes that have a log book in them. From what I understand there are items in the box. You're supposed to take something and leave something.
|12-22-2008 02:28 PM|
|4point||Where are you headed? Are you looking for a stash or just trying to find a given point. I've always wanted to do this but never have.|
|12-22-2008 02:04 PM|
Hey gang, I just loaded up some coordinates that are close by. I tried this back east but was never able to find them.
So, tiny and I are gonna give it a try.
Is there anyone else that has had any luck?
