toxictv Thanks. =) Yes, that is right on the body. I laid tape down starting from the bottom of the 'p' on the Jeep symbol, and also carried it up on to the door sills. Then I sanded it with 150 grit, just enough to cloud everything up really good. Clean it with soap/water, dry it, then spray on.

It's martin senour #4004 stone guard. About $7.48 a can here.

97'wrangler Well it looks nice and I think I will do the same thing to my rocker panels. There all scratched up and stuff so sooner or later there goofing to start to rust up a little bit so I am going to find that stuff maybe at NAPA auto parts up here in CT before winter and SALT covers the street...

So just to make sure, it's ok to spray right on the Jeeps bare body?

The top line of holes are the ones that the plastic trim piece that was there before mounted on to, which you can see in the before pics. I filled them with 1/4" nylon plugs and sprayed over them.

97'wrangler Hey did you already have diamond plating on as rocker guards? And then painted over it, because I see rivits in the pic, and just wondering if you painted right on the body or on some type of metal plating.

toxictv Hence the trim that's going on the edges soon. Thanks for the constructive criticism ;p

I'm tempted to go ahead and cut off the part where the side marker is.

toxictv It's stone guard, and says right on the back of the can that it's flexible. I can bend the flares whatever way I want to and it doesn't crack.

Loic I like the paint job you did, but I'll be affraid that the paint on the flair will crack because the flare are flexible. is that paint kinda flexible ?

matthewryan11 Looks awesome! Ive been kickin' around the idea of painting my flares, now i think I will do the bedliner trick on them and do the bumpers too!

toxictv Prep is the hardest part - taping everything off. I just used a ton of newspaper and blue painter's tape. There's another fellow online that used the NAPA stuff two years ago on his grille and it's still going strong..

I love the look. If I get tired of it I may flat black it later on..this is the same stuff car makers put on bumpers/rocker panels before spraying it with paint.

Tsisco Very nice! I repainted my fenders with bed liner when i did my tub. I was thinking about doing it to my grill also was it very difficult? I did all mine with herculiner and then flat black spray paint. Does the napa product hold up and are you please with the look?

Trimmed and Bedlined - Flares and Body

Got sick of the old, fat fenders on my '02 Sahara, so I decided to do something about it. I did this at the same time I stone guarded the front grille, leading edge of the hood, front of the fenders, both bumpers, rocker panels, door sills, inside of the tailgate and the flares.
I used 7 cans of NAPA's Martin Senour #4004 Stone Guard aerosol. Prepped by taping off, wiping clean with a wet towel, sanding with 150 grit sandpaper just to scuff it up, then cleaning again. Most everything has four coats.
Flares were trimmed by measuring 2.5" from the back of each flare using a measuring tape and laying painter's tape down all the way around it, scored with a box cutter, then pushed the boxcutter along the line I'd scored to trim it all off.

Total time spent: 9 hours, because I'm freaking anal about prep work.
