I've got the Hyline Offroad hood louvre panel.
I haven't noticed any change in the engine operating temperature but the heat from the engine bay just pours out.
Who knows, maybe the cooling system gets an easier job of it.
One other bonus with this style, it hides some hail damage and '97 hood paint problems.

|NHrubicon||Hood vents WILL let the hot air out-basic science-hot air rises. Several in our club including the master 'mechanic/builder' with his own shop swears by them. He has a corvette engine under the hood of his built rig-with what looks like a hood scoop on it and 'portholes' open down along the outer edge of the hood. The hood scoop is nothing more than open area for a large vent because of the heat of that engine-he runs it off a snorkel for cooler/clean air on the dusty back roads in his area. Makes all the difference-especially if you are winching out yourself or someone else...that heat has to go somewhere when you aren't moving!|

|smitty9119||An old Cherokee trick was to add spacers in the rear hood hinge bolts to lift the back of the hood up and letting out the hot air. I have not done this to my TJ but just a thought .|

Hmmmm lets see why would you want hood vents if your going in deep enough water that your concerned about having a snorkel.
The hood vents are typically aimedd towards the crawlers that are slow moving and creating alot of heat or for those is the more warmer climate areas.

|Fweaky||It doesn't help much with cooling.|

|wranglerYJnewb||only possible benefit i could see is if u have "cold air" intake and that would help get some of that hot air out from under the hood and allow colder air for the intake. I put cold air in parenthesis because most cold air intakes aren't true cold air.|

|KeeblerKO||Personally I think hood vents look terrible. But as long as you get actual functional ones, then no harm. If you buy those fake bling-bling stick on vents....that's another story. So tacky.|

Is your engine overheating?
I think the louvered hood vents from gen-right look pretty awesome when done correctly. I don't think they have any real benefits besides looks though.

|shrubeck||I had a set of hood Run Cool vents on a ZJ. They looked really cool but didn't do a dang thing for cooling. I took under hood temps before and after and at the very best saw about a 10° drop. Worth it for the appearance if you like that, but not a solution to heat problems.|

|VolForce||I have never used them, they certainly wont hurt anything.|

I was looking at mohave hood vents from river raider. I was wondering if they are a waste of money. There only $100 color matched to the hood. If there's any advantage like cooling I would get them. Thoughts?
