toxictv Thanks for the quick replies folks, and the enthusiastic local support >) I left her at work and caught a ride home from my roomie. Hopefully I can track down an oil pump housing here in town tomorrow and get things fixed.

Gotcha. No need to apologize. We've all been there. It takes time and experience.

The only dumb question is the one that's not asked.

The metal tube is a pickup tube which picks up oil from the sump, which is right near the drain plug. This tube needs to fit tight into the oil pump or you could burn up the t-case. It's hard to tell from the pic but it looks like you possibly broke of some of the pump housing where the o-ring is, preventing it from sealing. Does the tube still fit in the housing snugly? It's tempting to tell you to just get a new pump.

Edit - coyote got to it before me.

What do you mean front or rear? There is only one oil pump and it is always driven by the rear output otherwise you would only have lubrication while in 4WD and not in 2WD.

MCE Mike That's the oil pump for the t-case, it fits loose around the shaft in the sense that it can wobble a little back and forth. It is held in by the tail cone of the t-case.

In an attempt to get the harmonic balancer off (before I realized I just had to screw three bolts in to pop it off) I pried on the back side of it pretty hard, and hit the pry bar with a rubber hammer, while the tail extension was already taken loose. I finally got the tail extension off, and this plate was hanging loose around the output shaft.

What is this? There's also a metal tube just inside the tcase that appeared to have gone where the o-ring is in the pic. Can I just push it back in there, stick it all back together and be okay, or do I need to replace that part? The inner gear part seems to wobble slightly when rotating it.

That is the oil pump for your t-case. That gear is supposed to be wobbly. It doesn't look to bad but I would replace it just to be on the safe side. You wouldn't want that coming apart going down the road and getting all those parts mixed in with all the other parts in you t-case.

toxictv ^Thanks. Found a parts site that shows an actual picture of the parts on the diagram.

Turns out I busted the oil pump housing.

...

FACK.

Urgent: WTF did I break?
