|Ibuildembig||It does, but theres no way it would ever bolt up to a 6....that's why I said if you can remember that, you know you don't have an ax5|

Glad I could help. Hope everything goes well!

Mike you made my day! You have no idea how long I spent trying to identify this transmission! I feel kinda dumb/relieved all at once haha. I'm gonna pick up some redline and get the fluid changed asap - hopefully it helps clear up the chatter and ever so slight grinding I'm feeling!

|Ibuildembig||Easiest thing to remember is an ax5 was never behind a 6 cylinder|

I'm glad it helped! It's possible that they changed something, but I'm not sure. I know they put the AX-15 in the Dodge Dakota, and there is a toyota and GM transmission that are very similar.
Here is a page about the AX-15:

All I have to say is wow... In all my searching online and through books I've never seen pictures like that. Those instructions are exactly how my transmission is! Why is it that everywere else they talk about a torx head on the drivers side you shouldn't take off but judging by the pics (which are exactly like my jeep) it looks like it's the fill plug? Did they change the tranny at some point? Cause it looks like I'll be changing my tranny fluid no problem based on those pics!

Is this what you're talking about? Yours aren't where these instructions are? Compare the two and post back.
Hope this helps!

Transmission Identification Help
Hey guys, (and gals
I've been needing to change the oil in my transmission and to do that I obviously need to know what kind of tranny it is. Here's my issue - I have a 93 YJ 6cyl 5 speed. It should have either the ax-5 or ax-15 in it correct? Well here's the issue... It LOOKS like an ax-5 or ax-15 (by that I mean it has all the side ribbing and the bellhousing looks like it) BUT the fill plugs and drain plugs aren't were everyone is saying they are supposed to be. The drain plug should be directly at the bottom right in front of the skid plate and the fill plug should be up by the reverse gear wiring on the passenger side of the Jeep. I have what appears to be a drain plug at the bottom/passenger side of the tranny that is aimed towards the passenger side (not screwed in directly from the bottom - it screws into the passenger side right at the base in front of the skid plate). And there is no fill plug or anything like it up above it on the passenger side. Instead there is a hex head bolt on the driver side of the jeep about halfway up. Now I know about ax-5's and 15's (on the driver side there is a torx bolt that should not be removed but this isn't torx nor does it say do not remove...) So...I'm stumped. Help?
