dvonk update: ive been wearing the finished product of this concept (in brown) at work (5 days a week) for the past several months. it works well, and i like how unique it is. i get one of two reactions from people who see it: 1) they think it is really neat/creative/cool etc., or 2) they think it is weird and give me a strange look. i dont really care what the #2 people think, so i continue to wear it. ive actually made a second belt out of a nicer condition buckle for use for everyday use where it wont get as beat up.

here is a photo of me wearing it with my Utilikilt:

i have three of these vintage Jeep liftgate seatbelt buckles. two are the ones pictured in the above photos with the upturned lifting edge. the third has a lifting edge that is flush with the rest of the liftgate (perhaps an older design?).
i also have one original, Alofs Life Gard, "Manufactured 1965" fabric webbing belt in fair condition... it is a tan/khaki color with some staining but may be able to be dyed to a desired color. it has the original metal attachment brackets as well, some surface rust. some assembly required (i.e., stitching) to make this belt usable.

you might be able to convince me to let go of a buckle and/or the webbing fabric belt... shoot me a PM if youre interested.

dvonk thanks! i was kinda curious as to how long this style seat belt was used. on the back is stamped "Alofs Life Gard A5550" and has an AMC logo. from what i can figure they started using them c. 1965 or so, and it looks like they were still using them in 1972, since Tarby has them in his CJ5.

who else out there has stock seat belts like this in their Jeep?

YJjeep Ha, clever idea.
Nice job!

Tarby Sweet....I have a set of those out of my CJ5...1972, and they don't look as good as those...cool idea.

dvonk how about these?

Tarby pics didn't show up....at least from what I see.

project: vintage Jeep seat belt belt

so, i wanted a Jeep-logo belt and was thinking about buying one, but i thought id try my hand at making one first. i got a vintage (c. 1966) Jeep seat belt and threw this crude prototype together. it is not finished yet (note the staples, ha), and im thinking about using a more 'traditional' color webbing for the final product (e.g., black or brown); but for this prototype i just used some webbing scraps i had lying around.

what do you guys (and girls ) think? i want your opinion, and i prefer brutal honesty, so if you think it sucks, rocks, or is 'just ok,' let me know!
