skippy Wow I didnt expect this many answers. Thank you all. Bob I (in my searching) actually did find both of your threads about your install. I actually purchased it after reading yours and tinys threads. I do have both the ratchets and spring compressor (remember my sports car addiction prior to the jeep). I will get some before and after pics once I get it and get it installed. I am hoping to get it before the weekend but we will see. Thanks again all to your advice and hints and tricks.

Yeah, I had to use a crowbar on the back too, It was too short for the rachet strap to work!!

Rocky Road Outfitters 3" budget

Good morning Skippy,

I just installed the bb and bl from Rocky Road Outfitters this past Friday. I even put up two threads showing some of the work and a few notes. I'll put the link in below.

It came with the Performance Accessories BL. No MML needed with this kit. It comes with brackets to drop the fan shroud an inch. All in all a fairly easy install.

In the thread you will notice I asked about where the 1x3 inch puck went. I noted why i had this problem in figuring it out. Anyway it goes under the tub over the rear axle.

I was pointed to a link that had a write-up on the Performance 1" BL. It is-

Make sure you have a hammer and a spring compressor would help if you can't drop the axle far enough. We just pried the coil in after putting the BB in place.

RedRubiTJ The reason most people do a BL when doing a MML is that either alone will always require moving the fan shroud and the linkage can sometimes be a problem with either alone as well.

Personally, I wouldn't do a MML without a BL even though I am not a fan of BL's (I have one) but some people do.

Were I you what I would do is this:

Install just the BB. See how that works out. If you want or need to do the MML then go ahead and and order a BL to go with it, then install both. It will give you extra clearance plus make the MML install easier. If you don't need or want to do the MML at this time hold on to it, you may want to some time down the road.

jherrin215 The only thing you should have to do extra with the BL is relocate the fan shroud as Tiny said. You could go ahead and do the MML at the same time, or you could wait and see if you have a vibration problem. If you do you could either then do a MML or just do a transfer case drop, which in turn does the same thing by reducing the driveline angle. The main benefit of the MML over the Tcase drop is that you don't lose clearance under the vehicle. Hope this helps!!

skippy Ok that sounds perfect. My kit should be here soon so I wanted to make sure I didnt install the BL and then have to rush order some MML and pay a ton of money on shipping. Thank you tiny

tiny terror Well, there are things you have to do if you don't do a MML like moving the fan shroud and I think there was something else... but I did them together and my body lift was only a 1 inch, so I'm not exactly sure.

I actually only did the BL because I needed the MML.

I'm sure you'll get some other answers from the guys here who know better than I do. But you don't have to do a MML right now. You can do it later.

skippy Ok thank you. I read through your post but there is just so much info and not knowing anything about jeeps (but doing it all myself) this site really helps. So it is safe to say I could do the BL and BB in one shot and then just do the MML later when I get sick of the vibrating? Thank you again

tiny terror No, you don't have to do a MML, and you certainly don't do it before. I put on a BB about three months ago and I just did a BL and MML a couple days ago. The MML was to get rid of the vibes I ended up with from the BB. But you don't have to do a MML with a BL.

Just purchased BB and BL

as stated I just purchased a BB and BL from rocky road outfitters. I have been searching around on the forums and it appears that I may need to do the MML before I do the BL. Is that correct? On their site it says it is everything you need and pretty much nothing you don't. Now I am more confused. I have always had sports cars so this is a huge change for me (and I love it). I don't plan on doing a lot of heavy off roading just little things here and there that I see. I am doing it mainly for the eye appeal (but not posing). Thank you in advance.
