mark1305 In addition to my first comments above, on second look just now, I noticed on the minus side, the plastic dash bezel and indicator light covers are missing - I only noticed it because I had mine off forthe first time this afternoon troubleshooting the turn signal indicators which quit working within a few weeks of each other. And I noticed on the plus side, it comes with about $600 worth of good tires on it.

rogertc1 Looks like a $2000 or less jeep to me.

mark1305 Agreed, the body and tub and interior all look good. I'd make sure the frame isn't hiding any rust around the spring hangers and between the skid plate and frame rails.

Looks like a Holley carb, maybe 4-barrel under the hood. Check the exhaust manifold for cracks or broken off studs, especially the one at the very rear - That's getting near the top of the to-do list on my 89.

Also, I understand 89 was still a cross over year for the switch from the BA 10 5 speed gearbox to the much better AX 15. I'd crawl under and visually confirm which tranny it has. There's a build date for the switchover published somewhere on here or another forum, but I've learned to take the extra effort to eyeball any parts in question.

beefmobile That's a good looking rig, looks like minimal rust from what I can see. Tub is above average and the dash is really clean. Depending on the price and how it runs, I wouldn't hesitate to get it.

Considering another Jeep, 89 YJ. Advice??

Hello all, I'm thinking of adding another Jeep to my lineup. I currently have an 04 TJ with 17k miles. I have an opportunity to acquire a 1989 YJ with a 4.2 and 5 speed. It does have a lift roughly 4', body looks good, has roughly 140k on motor but not sure of mileage YET on the body.... I have only seen pics. I might be able to get him to throw in a 4.0 HO motor (unknown mileage) as part of the deal.

Anyhow, I know very little about the YJ / 4.2 and I'd like to know what are the troublesome spots on them. Things to look for (aside from the obvious) with all 21 year old vehicles.

This is NOT going to be much of a DD. More of a poke around town and beat the CRAP out of it on the trails along with my TJ when I go wheeling. 2 Jeeps are even more fun than 1, right?? It's basically a 3rd vehicle to run when needed and/or another vehicle for my friends to use on trails etc.
