s3nt3nc3d All I did was use the block of wood and jack method...I did it alone and nearly ripped my arm off doing a one handed door catch when it suddenly broke loose and popped out. Definitely have a buddy help you. One person to hold the door (window down...then hold it via the window frame) and one person to slowly crank the jack up (position it as close to the hinges as possible).

Once I had them off, I took a scotchbrite pad and cleaned the rust off the pins...then took some all-purpose grease like is used in a standard grease gun and just smeared it on the hinges and put a pump down inside each hinge. Then put the doors back on, wiped all the excess grease off with a rag and swung them back and forth a bit to work the grease in good. Now they lift right out (I neutered mine...removed the nuts and cut the threads off the pins).

Atthehop Anti Seize. Any auto parts store has it. It's something you cannot live without.

bmori what type of lube or grease do you use on the door hinges?

snwchris The wood & jack method works fine, no issues, just make sure use use a 2x4 or 4x4 long enough so you don't hit the bottom of the door. Also for extra safety, put towel or blanket along side if worried the wood might slip and hit the jeep.

Just remember move the jack slowly, since hinge pin is tight, you don't want it just flying out. Like Inferno said, grease or lube the hinge pin and hinge plate on Jeep and work door back & forth when putting back on.

InfernoGirl And remember to grease the pins before you reinstall the doors. I forgot to grease the pins on the door we ended up having to pry out with a prybar.... It was almost as hard the second time to get it out......

Neil F. It's not going top crumple the door. I did it that way the first time as have lots of others.

warlock4890 It's a method I've heard works, but I've never tried it myself since I got mine new. I did have to wiggle the passenger door back and forth while lifting up on it since when I first removed them it hadn't been used much, so the insert wasn't worn down yet. Now it's a cinch.

If you do use the block of wood method, there is the disclaimer to not do it like your jacking your Jeep to change a tire. You've got to pay attention.

Gee oh Dee I wouldn't use a jack and block of wood either. That'll easily crunch the bottom of your door.

Hit it with some PB blaster, and work the door open and closed a bunch while putting gentle upward pressure on the door.

Others have said the door needs to be near closed to easily slip out of the hinges.

warlock4890 Ah! Don't beat them with a hammer. They are attached to the door. Just lift up on the door.

If it's stuck you can use a block of wood and a jack under the door when it's open to get it unstuck. Just make sure you have a couple peope to help if you go this route. Don't want to have your doors come out suddenly and end up on the concrete.
