JIMBOX Well, they sell HiLift "recovery" kits-or

The same TOW strap/D-rings/tree strap, that I'm sure you already have, can be used for it-

I've gotta portable winch/come-along/Hi-lift and ALL the recovery "stuff", but the list would take too much band width !!

As much as I've used the HiLift, I never have, as a come-along-but I've practiced it just for grins--

My89yj You guys are funny thanks fir the info on the jacks I knew you could use them as a come along but I had the same general questions about other uses

nick50471 If you get stuck in a rut you can jack your Jeep up with the Hi-Lift then push it over out of the rut. You must be very careful when doing this.

Both front and rear bumpers have 2 spots to use the HiLift-each one at the point the frame meets the bumper, otherwise you'll TWEAK the bumper !!

If you're going to get a HiLift, then you plan on going off-road, so-

Get some sliders-GOOD ones first, then you can use the HiLift on either side, front or rear to change/repair tires-

Can'tbeatit

In the sides of body if you've got rock sliders our on the bumpers. Always chock the wheels though. I'm going to be getting the base soon with the tire lifter, get stuck you can lift the tire and put something under it for traction

I also have the gear to winch with it although I wouldn't want to its a major pita

Maximus1956 I'm pretty new to the jeep world as well. Dumb question, but where do you place the hi lift jack to change the tire? Do you use the bumper as the lift point? The reason I ask. My car has jack points or stops on four areas of the car. Two per side.

I sure as hell don't want to use the bottle jack that came with the TJ.

JIMBOX Once you learn to use a HiLift, they can be one minute from stuck-to freedom, or one minute from flat tire/blown bead to change, or one minute to tire rotation (same side) or one minute to STAYING OUTTA MUD/SNOW/ROCKS--

The HiLift jack is only as stable as the vehicle, ya gotta use tire chocks-

Hi Lift Jack Q

This question will serve as a reminder that I'm a newb.

Until recently I thought most people purchased the hi-lift simply because they were lifted and needed a way to change a tire just in case. Then I read they are to unstable to use when changing a tire (which I should have realized earlier).

So my question is why buy a hi-lift?

I understand they can be used as a come-along in situations but shouldn't I just get a come along then? And wouldn't a winch or a tow strap and a friend still be the better bet?
