am i excused i dont have one? i think it might be somewhere in a mudhole since it never came with my jeep.

Caution: Follow these steps to be certain that the transfer case is fully in "N" (Neutral) and that the axle is completely disengaged before recreational towing to prevent damage to internal parts.

1. Shift transfer case to 2H and check that the 4WD light goes out.

2. Drive the vehicle 10ft rearward and then 10ft forward to make sure the axle is disengaged.

3. Shift transmission to "N" (Neutral)

4. Turn off the engine with the ignition key in the unlocked "OFF" position.

5. Shift the transfer case lever from 2H to "N" (Neutral) position.

6. Shift manual transmission into gear or automatic transmission into "P" )Park)

Warning: With the transfer case in "N" (Neutral) position, the vehicle could roll unexpectedly. The Parking brake should always be applied before the tow bar is attached.

7. Attach the vehicle to the tow vehicle with the tow bar.

Caution: Do not use bumper mounted clamp-on tow bar on youor vehicle. The bumper face bar will be damaged.

bluvikng For the price of the brake system needed, you could buy a very nice trailer to haul your Jeep on. That is what I did, and the trailer comes in very handy, for other things. A trailer sure does simplify, pulling a Jeep.

Triple88a i believe on a adjustable 2x4/4x4 wheel drive vehicle where the rear is always on i think you gotta lock the front wheels in place and pull it by the rears so the front ones will be on the ground since the entire tcase and tranny wont be spinning the entire time trip there. Thats just my opinion and i am not sure.. the other options is remove the rear driveshaft

bluvikng Tried to answer this earlier, when everything froze up. Your owners manual, will tell you how to flat tow your Jeep. If you do not have a manual, go to www.jeep.com and hit the, "contact us", button, and call the toll free number on your screen. They will be more than happy to send you a manual, as they sent me one.

debruins I know your supposed to remove the rear driveshaft in a CJ

i think in a Tj you can just put the TC in neutral, but i would just remove the driveshaft to be safe.

well not remove, remove it from the back and with with metal strapping like you use for pipes, or somthing else and then put the Tcase in neutral then all thats moving is the two axles, idn how far your going either at a time and not using it, because you could put on used tires that are like 30's and then just run those down instead of nice bigger expensive ones, of course thats assuming you have lift and bigger tires

Towing

I tow my 2000 TJ behind my motorhome. I went to Camping World and dropped about 2 grand on a Roadmaster setup including brackets, wiring (more later on that), tow bar and supplemental braking system (more on this too).

The brackets were the easy part, I could train a monkey to do that. After the brackets were in the tow bar just slides on to them. After that you hook up the safety cables and that part is done.

The wiring was a bit harder in that I had to splice into the wiring harness of the Jeep, insert diodes then cover it all back up. The best tip on that is to splice in next to the driver's seat and don't try to splice in at the connector under the dash. You can actually see the wires at the side of the seat instead of standing on your head to wire under the dash.

I also bought a supplemental braking system that sits on the drivers side floor and pushes the brake when the motorhome brakes are activated. You should look on the Roadmaster or Blue Ox websites to see which states require the system. I think you can get away without one in Texas, but if you travel to other states you should check that out. I got it for the peace of mind. I spent a lot on the motorhome and I don't want to run it into a ditch due to bad braking.

Whats needed to pull the Jeep?

Thinking about buying a tow bar so we can pull the Jeep behind the truck when we travel. I know I need the tow bar and hook the lights up but what else as far as the Jeep? Tow in nuetral? what about transfer case? Is there anything I need to unhook or take off of the Jeep to tow?
