|mike_the_engineer||I have the same winch. Yes, it will work with the stock bumper, but you need a winch plate. Make sure you get one with a mount for the fairlead. You don't need a new battery, just be sure to do your winching with the engine running. You *can* just wrap the cable around a tree if you're in a pinch, but you should use a tree trunk protector. Tread lighty. And get a set of work gloves for handling the cable.|

|edman87k5||Actually, damage to the tree is not the only Reason to use a tree saver. The cable is not designed to be hooked to. When you just wrap the tree and hook the cable back to itself, you are focusing the entire load on about 1/2" of cable and that load is pulling against the cable in the opposite way it was designed. (across the rope instead of in line with it). You will do severe damage to the cable and risk breakage by doing this. Wire rope is actually somewhat brittle and prone to failure when side loaded.|

Now stop bashing me on my sarcastic previous comment. Thanks. Let's continue the thread please.

I guess I never asked this.
I just noticed this thing weighs aobut 95lbs. I have a 2" BB. Will this put too much pressure on my stock springs? I am looking to put a 4" RC lift in in about a year or 2. Will I be okay for a couple of years?

A tree saver strap is wide, so that it doesn't damage the trees.
And yes, a winch will come with either a cable or synthetic rope. When you read the details on a winch, it will usually specify what size diameter and length of cable / rope.

|s3nt3nc3d||Question for you winch guys (and girls)...didn't wanna start yet another winch thread...I'm looking to get the Warn M8000 winch in the future. Can I purchase synthetic line rated for an 8000 lb winch and put it on there or are only certain winches compatible with synthetic line?|

|Redjeepmormon||Why the tree saver straps? What do they do? And does the winch come with a cable?|

Everything above and spring for a snatch block, and at least 2 shackles and 2 tree straps.
I have had the xrc8 on my tj for almost 2 years and it has been well used with 0 problems. It got a major workout last weekend and has done back to back full spool pulls and doesnt get hot.
Only drawback is that it is slow.
Yes, I do have a warn also to compare it to and love my warn, but when I was buying for the tj, cash was tight and the smitty was all I could afford. No regrests.

|Mortalis5509||Smitty has a winch plate for your jeep. You will need a tree saver strap and a D ring to hook everything together. Buy gloves to protect your hands. Also important to weigh the line down encased it breaks. The cable won't go flying through the air. Amazon has the xrc 8 with synthetic line for 401 with free ship.|

|Fire Jeep||It should work with your stock bumper however not sure on the winch plate, if your battery is still good you shouldn't have a problem and you should use a tree saver then attach to your cable. Take a look at the rugged ridge 8500 winch for the same price, you might be better off(that's what i will be picking up). any thoughts?|

Smittybilt XRC8 Winch Question
97281 - Smittybilt XRC-8 Winch - Quadratec
^^^^^Here's the link for the winch.
I am getting this winch for Christmas. I have a stock bumper on a 2000 TJ
Now the questions.
Will this work with the stock bumper?
What is the best winch mount plate to buy?
Will I need a new battery?
Is there anything I will need to get before I can use the winch?
And the last one, and the dumbest one, do I just have to wrap the winch cable around the tree? or do I need something else?
Please help everybody. Thanks in advance!
