Tulsa Voltage is good. It stays at 14. My battery is 6 months old or so. I'll have to check my cables. Thanks for the info!

scott howard watch your voltage gauge when you turn on your headlights.
does it drop down ?
should be around 14 volts and not drop below 13 for sure.

how old is your battery? 3 to 4 years is about the life of them.

and new battery cables never hurts. people don't realize how they can effect
the whole system from being dirty and corroded but not look like it.

agreed - maybe just a loose or corroded / rusted ground. If the ground is actually that bad / weak somewhere it could also be getting extremely hot and cause lots of trouble down the road...

chensley Hmm, given that the engine supplies the power to the alternator which then branches off to electrical. If your alternator is new, I would check to see how much power you are getting into it, and also check for a faulty ground somewhere above it(schematic wise). I have noticed that when ideling in my jeep with my off road lights, fog lights and driving lights on, the engine starts skipping. The electrical load is too much for the alternator. Hope that sheds some "light" on the subject.

Electrical Issue

I've got an '87 wrangler basically stock with the exception of a 3 inch body lift, 33's and a motorcraft carb. For some reason when I turn my headlights on the motor starts missing. Its not bad enough to cause it to die, and its still driveable, but I'd like to fix it if I could. I just put new plugs in it, and the alternator is new. the carb has been recently tuned, and the timing has recently been adjusted. It runs great without the headlights on. Any ideas? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
