"I can always learn something new and if not, at least I made a new friend. Obviously, this experience today was quite the anomoly."
O' contrare my friend-- I think you DID learn something today. That material possesions don't mean d@#k squat when it comes to personality and what we call "brotherhood".

|cavediverjc||Give me a Corvette any day.|

I will agree that C5 Z's are relatively cheap nowadays, but I would still argue categorizing a Corvette and Mustang into the same "group". Both are sports cars, yes. But both have very different looks, performance characteristics, price tag, and costs for aftermarket modification. There are far more Mustangs on the road than there are Corvettes, therefore aftermarket parts for Mustangs are relatively cheaper which of course makes it cheaper to go faster. Straight line, you may need a Cobra to be equal to a C5 Z, but I would be willing to bet the weight difference and high center of gravity in a Mustang works against it in an Autocross. Categorizing Corvettes with Mustangs, to me, is no different than categorizing Lotus with Miata. But I bet someone would say ".....but that's different."
Last I checked, Mustangs had no bragging rights on the NurburgRing.....and I am curious to see just how well the Lotus did.....
Regardless, its an enthusiast thing. There will always be someone faster.

|Ibuildembig||Ego? Are you serious? Remember paco, you own the Lotus that you insist on bringing up every other thread on here.|
|12-06-2010 02:55 PM|
|mrcarcrazy||Its not worth my time. Your ego is too large for me to bother trying. Not trying to be a dick, just stating an observation. (some may say the same about me, and that's fine).|
|12-06-2010 02:53 PM|
|Ibuildembig||Is that a fact? Enlighten me|

|Ibuildembig||I don't want to get into a pissing match but they are both sports cars that are too expensive to insure and maintain for my taste. There are several online forsale in the 20's and you don't have to go far to find um. The biggest difference is that a vette will only depreciate only so far before it starts rising again...something that is few and far between for any import.|
|12-06-2010 02:16 PM|
30k is and has been the "standard" for about 3 years (+/- 4k usually)
Vette's are not the same...comparing the two is like apples and oranges...compare vettes to mustangs and you'll be closer.
And C5 Z06's are rather cheap....
|12-06-2010 11:58 AM|
|Ibuildembig||WOW you had a dandy driveway didn't ya?? A Chevette and a Fiero hehe....all you needed to complete the set was a Vega, a Pinto, and a Nova and you would have all the bases covered hehe|
|12-06-2010 11:56 AM|
|sonofabeach||When I met my wife she had a Vette.......unfortunately it was a Chevette|
|12-06-2010 11:40 AM|
|Ibuildembig||Its all relative to what vette it is, just like your lotus...I have seen lotus' for sale around here for 20K, then some are 50K...same with vettes. A standard vette? Nah, prolly not...but a Z06 or a ZR1?? call me in 30 and lemme know|
|12-06-2010 11:38 AM|
|OregonTJ||I used to have a "66 vette...back in the day.....|
|12-06-2010 11:34 AM|
yeah, and if you do, walk backwards away from him.

|Ibuildembig||Yeah but the old white guy cars are still gonna be worth something in 30 years too|
|12-06-2010 11:14 AM|
I know quite a few dick vette owners, and a few that are nice guys. Of course the same is true with P cars...
The Corvette is the old white guy car. Any time you look in one, you'll notice one thing...its an old white guy. (this is completely true 90% of the time). I find it funny.

|turk||my friend has a vette he said when he first talked to another vette owner he said you wave to other vettes like what jeep people do.|
|12-06-2010 10:32 AM|
|sonofabeach||I had the same problem back when I had my Pontiac Fiero. It was supposed to be a brotherhood as well but I ran into a few dorks too.|
|12-06-2010 10:14 AM|
About time....i guess. I could do without the cold myself...But yea last few days have been in the mid 30's in the AM...shouldn't get any warmer than the 50's through out the day most this week.
I'm ready for spring!
I love screenshots....lol

Hey, my Mom lives close by, near Inverness. I hear FL is getting real winters now. Temps down into the 30s? Whats up with that? Brrrrr.
|12-06-2010 09:49 AM|
does d@#k = dork???.
j/k...Never had a vette, but always loved 'em . My uncle has always had one when i was growing up...when i was young, us kids jumped at every chance to take a ride.

|JeepCreeper||My best friend in high school drove a vette with wood paneling stickers on the side. Girls weren't impressed when they saw it was a chevette.|

I love my yellow vette.
|12-05-2010 01:00 PM|
my dad has an unrestored, mostly original 59 Vette. it's got 83,000 original miles and it pretty much as delivered from the factory.
every cruise night we go to, you get some douche who will stand there with their buddy and pick it apart. "this is not original, that is not factory", of course NEVER to your face. you know what buddy? F you. most of these guys weren't even ALIVE in 1959, much less even seen what the original parts look like.
i have met a few really cool vette guys (most of them have modded vettes to suit THEIR tastes, my dad's taste is stockish) but i've met some of the biggest a-holes driving vettes.
you want to really piss off a snooty vette owner? blow his doors off with your 55 chevy "family car".
|12-04-2010 08:50 PM|
I don't have a vette, but I do have a LS1 with ram air in my trans am, and I'm going to say it, driving the Jeep over things is more fun then accelatoring fast.

|JackdUp||Bubba, no worries. For me, it was just expanding the brotherhood. Just a spare moment to say hello and share a story or two. Nothing different when Jeepers get together. What irritated me most was his straight out rude behavior to someone just being friendly. Since I got my Vette 6 years ago, I have met at least 100+ Vette owners from the forum alone, in several different states. When I moved here, within a week or so, I met another forum member who I never previously met and just met up for lunch. Since then we have met up a few times more to include racing at the track. 11,000 miles away, I met a total stranger who saw me in my car and asked if I was "GR8WHITE", shocked, I asked "How did you know?" He said "Dude! I recognize your car from the forum!!" So, for me, it was a brotherhood greeting. And to me, a car enthusiast is a car enthusiast, regardless of ride. I can always learn something new and if not, at least I made a new friend. Obviously, this experience today was quite the anomoly.|

I'm only going to get myself in trouble with this thread...but whatever:
I've had tons of people try to initiate conversations about my Cutlass...particularly when I was driving it on a daily basis. While never rude, I rarely gave the conversation much fuel. While I'd occasionally get people who either had some intelligence on the vehicle or were genuinely interested in learning...most just wanted to talk about themselves...their own cars - even if they hadn't had anything similar in 30 years. You can start to understand why beautiful women blow off so many guys whose first words are "wow you're pretty"...the compliment seems hollow after hearing it so often...same thing with the car...after hearing it so often, it goes in one ear and out the other.
This guy...I'm not sure why you were so keen on impressing him. All he did was take out an $80k loan...doesn't take any talent to do that. With the stuff you've mentioned, he should be the one trying to impress you...
