JIMBOX That would be FRAUD !

Dishonest misuse of your vehicle insurance and possibly subject to legal suit(not likely), but

If you could do something like that-I hope you're not in the gene pool !!

JIMBO

PS-I'm not sickeningly honest, but I could never do something like that

This is one of the reasons insurance is so high!

4fit I've had a number of windshields replaced throughout the years, even 2 in one year. Never had to pay a dime. I use Nationwide Ins.

Peepers My insurance company offers different deductables with or with out full glass. A few extra bucks is worth it in my opinion.

Mr. Sinister i don't have much to add about the cost, but i would HIGHLY recommend dropping your comp. deductible to $0. it only costs you a couple bucks more per month. i think it cost me a buck and change.

Cal State Farm won't wave the deductable. I've got State Farm and the stopped as it was costing them too much money.

Boosta Most people don't know it but you can almost haggle anything. A long time ago prices were more like guidelines and vendors would rather take something than nothing. I always ask for a discount for EVERYTHING i purchase. The worse they can say is no, but just think of all the yes's!

MetsFan978 Just had the windshield replaced in my YJ this weekend. I'm in NJ, and called Safelite and they quoted me $265 + disposal + tax. I said that's a little high and was expecting closer to $200, and they dropped the price to $220 + tax and disposal. I told the tech who was installing it that I'd pay with cash, and he only charged $210 total.

It never hurts to ask and in the end you can probably save quite a bit.

GroundHawg Awesome. I'll give them a ring tomorrow. Thank you everyone

GroundHawg Hey IG! good to see you too. Last we spoke I think you just bought a JK? if so how you liking it.

Yeah I think a $0 deductible isn't a bad idea on this hog. Especially with all the highway miles she sees

Merry Christmas

Actually that's very helpful. I'm living near Robinson at the moment

GroundHawg Ok. I was asking because I think my deductible is $500, but I'm not positive. If it is, it's probably cheaper out of pocket huh? I'll have to call Geico and see. I have no clue how to install these things either. I was guessing $150 for the glass and what, $100 labor maybe?

The cost depends on your state/area, but I've heard the cost can be from $250 to $350 and there are some outfits that will come to your home to doit-check google and your home papers classified list, you could luck out

Merry Christmas to you too Jimbo and good to see you're still hanging around. You too Daggo. I miss playing on this forum but I've been so busy with work and the holidays I just haven't had time at all.

This is actually the 3rd stone in 1 year that's hit me. The first 2 only chipped it. Nothing major. I was on a highway. I don't tailgate, due to big tires, heavy Jeep, and stock brakes lol! I'm guessing I was maybe 3-4 car lengths behind. Thing is though 1 was a semi, the other a dump truck.

Now the one that actually cracked my windshield was from a garbage truck. 4 lane road, I was in the left lane, he was oncoming in his left lane, we were both traveling about 45mph. I actually saw the stone coming at me so it was decent sized, maybe about as big as a marble.

I think what's going on is our windshield's are pretty flat and vertical vs. a car's that's rather curved. It's like an aerodynamic thing. I wasn't following close, and that garbage truck was just bad luck I think.

daggo66 It all depends upon your comprehensive deductible. Could be $0 up to $500. As stated previously, it won't affect your rates.
12-13-2010 02:18 PM
SouthernMissWrangler depending on where ya go prob $100 to $150
12-13-2010 02:15 PM
bflank Most insurers won't hit you on rates for this kind of comprehensive claim - unless you have them come up a lot. I have found that in most cases your share is about $100 but no idea what the retail total comes to.
12-13-2010 02:14 PM
CMEvans79 your insurance should cover it free of charge for safety concerns ... mine does.... I have State Farm

Cracked Windshield

Hey everyone. Been awhile since I've been on, but I've got a quick question.

A month or so ago a stone hit my windshield and bullseyed it. Long story short, I got it filled it, but this morning I discovered a crack running the entire width of my windshield.

Anyone know the ballpark figure of material and labor on a new windshield? It's an 07 2 door JK softee.

Also, I'd rather not tell the insurer. I'm willing to bet it'll cost me less in the long run to just pay it out of pocket. Just sucks with it being so close to the holiday.

That brings me to my other question. How safe is this? I understand visibility is an issue, and I won't be dragging my feet on this too long, but it's my understanding it won't bust out or anything. I've never messed with glass so I don't know how structurally sound it is. I know cars it compromises integrity, but are Jeeps different due to the roll bar and all? I also drive approx. 40 miles of highway daily, and lately the temps are way low with high wind. Am I going to die? lol

Thanks in advance
