jkaufman_95 Had some little sheets shoot a paintball gun at the Santa fe the day before we traded. Already had the paperwork done. If I would have done damage I would been pissed. Lucky it didn't hit a window

Still no action so I'm slowly replacing them and upgrading. still looking for ways to make it harder for them to get stolen again.
Try either Loc-tite or super glue!
12-20-2010 12:06 PM
Dogzilla A glass shop can probably cut you one that you could glue in. Not sure if that would be cost effective though.

Search And Destroy I shattered my mirror from and idiot friend pushing on it. Can I replace the mirror or do I have to get a whole new friggen mirror setup?
12-20-2010 11:36 AM
Dogzilla Yes...But they will ALWAYS leave that little circular fracture mark.

I disagree. Mythbusters tried shooting a BB at a laminated and unlaminated windshield once. A non-CO2 powered BB gun was able to shatter an unlaminated windshield in one shot. Rearview mirrors are not laminated, thus a BB could do some serious damage.

Firemangully Back in 2005 I pulled up in front of my uncles house around 3:00 in the morning in San Antonio in a "good" neighborhood to visit some family. I was TIRED from the drive so I just took in one load of stuff. At 9:00 my cousin woke me up to tell me that my window was laying in the street. Yep, sure enough - slid right under my 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab ( window tint held the glass together ). Long story short, items stolen were my: Alpine cd player, leather jacket, handgun, extra mags, holster, backpack with my police academy book and binder in it, video camera, digital camera, and 2 cd cases full with 196 cd's! Turned in a claim to the insurace company and got everything paid for except the cd's...apparently due to the easy target and high payout, they stopped paying claims on cd thefts not long before that. Hmm, 196 cd's at say 12.00 each.....
This was definitely a lesson learned, I made this too easy for the punks and I'm sure they were like " cha-ching, jackpot"!

To make matters worse, the next day while driving my uncles minivan to the lake to pay respects to my late father (pancreatic cancer 1993) and reflect on life (recently divorced 2003), while my window was being replaced; I had the fortunate privelage of meeting officer xxxxx of the Texas Highway Patrol for going 10 over in a 60 mph zone.

Needless to say this was a very costly trip with very little payout in return, I suppose, with the exception of "the lesson learned".

wavebacktothetj somebody stole my kavu visor out of my jeep when the top and doors were off and a kid in a grand cherokee threw an egg at my windsheild while driving home from work
12-20-2010 12:09 AM
yjkid95 One day I parked right around the corner on the street at work with the top and doors off. Took a bike for a test ride and there was someone sitting in the drivers seat in my console! So I stopped the bike by my jeep and said "Hey there I like the jeep" He looked up suprised and goes "Thanks its a blast" So I said to him "Yea I know...its mine" and held my jeep key up to him. He took off running so fast and as much as I wanted to introduce his face to the pavement I couldnt help but to laugh.

It wasn't a Jeep,,, but it's a good story with a poor ending. I guess the moral is,,, there is no winning.

Shoulda substituted barbed fish hooks for razor blades..... The punk woulda stuck around until morning to do a full confession

burton160w I had my atv stolen when I was thirteen. Worst was that the 3500 spent on it was all my own work money.

I had someone throw a stale bagel in my jeep.

Worst of all someone pissed in my jeep.

You're assuming he was aiming at the mirror.

YJPunisher213 I havent been hit.... YET! I live in Cincinnati where we have a pretty substantial crime rate. I lock my console at all times, remove stereo faceplate, and have a 20mm ammo can bolted on the rear inner fender that locks. All my accessories (lights, winch, etc) are welded to the Jeep, and my beloved CCW permit that legal allows me to carry a Springfield XD .40 to blows a thiefs brains out.
12-15-2010 10:16 PM
Mortalis5509 That had to be a pellet gun if not a 22 cal. Moving away from them at speed and the person also being concealed makes a bb pretty hard to do anything with distance.

YHSublime I had a little kid throw a rock at my car about a month and a half ago. Literally watched him pick it up, and though to myself "no WAY is he even going to consider something that ballsy." Sure enough, he launched it right at my passenger door. Good think I've got the top halfs of my doors soft.

Stopped the car immediately and ran about 8ft, there was no way I was going to catch the little s***. He had some cronies on the corner who all watched, but kept quiet the entire time.

No damage, but still, I was pissed.

Danjo My dad's old Subaru hatchback had the battery stolen out of it when I was a kid. He left the car unlocked at night (back in those days, hell, we kept the doors to our house unlocked at night) and someone popped the hood, disconnected the battery, and hauled ass. They left the hood propped up overnight after they left. Dad was sooooo pissed off.

hannahuffster I had my window washer nozzles stolen off my yj at walmart. They unscrewed them and took them off the hoses... I guess I have been fairly lucky though, my boss has had 3 TJ soft tops stolen off his jeep in the last <almost> 3 years. Once on main street in town at 7:00 durring the summer (light out side) once outside of a bar in AR, and the last time right in his driveway at his house where they not only took his top but his doors also. That's the strangest one too, they live in a SUPER nice subdivision where everybody knows everybody...

Sorry to hear that and glad that it didn't hit you or break a real window, but thank you for posting this because it show that my situation wasn't that far fetched. I think depending on the top you have that you could order individual windows from Quadratec or somewhere.

I've never tried it, but maybe a pool repair kit? Vinyl adhesive with a vinyl patch. I've been thinking of using it to fix a crack in my half door.

sonofabeach So you drove by, then someone ran out into the road behind you , fired and hit your mirror? I suppose it's possible but I'm thinking rock damage. Good thing he was a really bad shot if so.

crafty Was into classic cars for a few years, had vandals hit the street and got a nice red spraycan stripe down the side of a white car. Used a Mcquires (sp) product and elbow grease and cleaned it right up. Owner of a white F150 down the street made a store run to buy some also.

DKDKGUS I've had 2 passenger side mirrors and 1 drivers side broken in the year and a half I've had my YJ. Second was at less than 20MPH. All were from the rear tires kicking stones forward.

BLK00TJ A year or two after I got my TJ, I was really into mountain biking and came home late one night from a bike ride. I was about to go to sleep at 4am and remembered my bike was still on the tire rack. I had the rear bike tire locked with a u-lock, there were two locks on the rack itself, and another cable lock locking the bike to the tire. Since I was planning on get up to go riding at 6am, I figured for 2 hrs it would be safe. Nope. Punks pryed the rack open and cut the cable lock and took the bike. If that wasn't bad enough, they also used white spraypaint on my black jeep and wrote "Nice Lock". The paint was still wet so it was easy to get off thank goodness.

Karma may have intervened because that same morning, vandal hit the community boat yard and vandalized a few boats and took some jet skiis. One of the kids ran into a bouy while driving it at night and was killed.

I'm not sure if it was that same group because the cops never recovered my mountain bike.

I never keep anything in my soft top TJ that I won't miss. I leave all locks unlocked so they aren't tempted to cut the top to get in (friend of mine had that happen and couldn't believe they didn't just unzip it). The only think I keep in my glove box is the manual, registration, a few spare fuses and bulbs. The console keeps my repair reciepts and a couple tools that are cheap and replacable.

toshpate most of my jeeps have at least one cracked mirror. figured it was part of having a jeep with tires that stick out
