have him take a look at say jcwhitney.com or other jeep part dealerships and sorta put in the ability to build up your jeep.. (suspension lift, different bumpers, tube fenders, foglights, ect..)
that would be SWEET

This is sooo freakin cool!
Make it objective based. With a GPS style map in the corner with way-points and topographical info. It would be awesome if the maps were scale recreations of some of the better trails in the nation.
I agree with the "got to have a way to earn points to build your machine with...levels of knowledge according to time played" concept. But throw in an Arcade mode for us "Too busy to play games" kinda guys.
Operational winches would be cool. As well as, the occasional unpredicted obstacle "tree down on the trail"...That sort of thing.
There should be a get together (optional) at the end of each trail where you can drink beer, tell "Trail" stories and get rowdy.
A Bigfoot sighting or two would be cool! LMAO no, but wildlife and poison ivy should be factored in!
Oh, yeah...I almost forgot...There should be a place to purchase your Jeep, in the factory color (of your choosing) with OEM trim options. Then there should be a "Mod" area where you can pay to have anything done....
Record chris' (AKA Tiny Terrors) voice and witty comebacks and puns, and have her narrate the game!

|amy||I don't have any suggestions right now but, please, pretend to tell your imaginary friend that it sounds fun and I'd be interested in giving such an imaginary game a try.|

|deverhart||I played everquest shortly after launch, around 6 years of playing in there, Played enough wow to know that I didnt like it, planetside, and then I retired from MMOish type things to pursue business stuffs :-) I studied comp sci in college, think highly of my coding skills and have regularly partipated in design ideas, in particular with this friend. He will be pursuing the game design degree and this will more than likely be a main or side project while he works thru his completion. I will keep this thread going and we can get some general interest going, once we get serious about putting something together we can touch on the various skill sets those of you have and possibly move discussion off the board for true hashing out of design and actually building the game, which would involve everything from anyone with any artisitic ability to as scotty mentioned some beta testers to help us break it. Is going to be a fun project nonetheless and will gladly keep everyone up on the direction we are going with it. Keep the ideas and discussion coming, feel free to play off of others posts and debate pros and cons to the stuff suggested.|

|Scotty355||I like this idea! I have mostly retired from gaming also except for the occasionally run at diabloII. If your imaginary friend needs a Beta tester just send it to me.|

|JCS05Rubi||Deverhart, I have played many games in my day, and have a lot of computer experience (some of which even computer programming). When I am more awake, I will see if I can come up with something for ya. although, my mind does work a lot better when I can rearrange and build off of an already manafested idea, but I will still give it a shot for ya.|

Since this would be an imaginary game I say it would be awesome to include some of the best hot spots for wheelin in the US. Then also have mythical wheeling spots like Antartica and places like that.
Ditto however on the responsible wheeling message.

|deverhart||great hackle, always good to have your input, if something can materilize from this we may assemble a crack pot team from here to have some serous input on design doc|

|Theoldone||got to have a way to earn points to build your machine with..... realistic damage when you push your machine too far (broken TC's, etc....... kept realistic (no 80" tires)........levels of knowledge according to time played......just to say a few.|

This is off the cuff.
You would need a way to earn modifications to your rig and driving skills.
You would need a way to set up runs on specific areas and a meeting time to bring in the social part.
You would need a way to communicate among the players on that trail.
I would also add in a way to loose points if you go off the trail or trash the area. Lets add some level of responsibility
You would need trails of many levels.
I like the idea and will work on it more.

Jeeps. CJs, YJs, Rubicons, JKs, Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, CJ8 scramblers, flat fenders, CJ2s....
Throw in some MAGIC like Ultima Online/Everquest/WoW!!!!!
Jk.. Jeeps and mud/rocks will be enough

offroad game ?
so lets pretend for a second, Lets pretend that 1 of my good friends, is sitting in my living room. Lets pretend said friend is an avid gamer, lets also pretend that he has an undergrad in MIS, an MBA, has spent the last year and a half in korea to take learn more about their gaming market, and is about to work on an advanced degree in gaming design at SMU in texas. While we are pretending lets say he may be very interested in devleoping an offroad related game, lets say a massively multiplayer online offroad game, that is mostly exploration and socialization based.
Describe in the thread what you would like to see in such a game and maybe I will pass it along to my imaginary friend.
