vjz Red one turned out to be a bust!

Front floor boards were gone, back frame by the shackles was rotted out.

He had replacement frame pieces for the back and a ton of other stuff.

I did not bother hearing it run I was so angry.

I drove 40 miles to check this thing out.

From the outside, the rust is very minimal and the interior is spotless. Under the hood was clean too.

The unfortunate thing is that I wanted this one as a DD.

Here's the thing, I emailed him back and he had no idea because he had moved. So he said $500.

If it runs and stops, is it a good thing to drive it back an hour? I dont have a way of towing it and i'm not paying for a tow.

I don't really want a project though

Indeed. More like my scholarship kickback from school can fix that.

You know, "transportation expenses" lol

I would prefer the EFI I6, but I like tinkering with carbs. Also, I like the slant roll bar on the earlier YJ!

I would look at the 94 frame real close at the spots that if rusted can be a pain to fix and if they are ok i would talk him down and go that way.

They will not budge off the $2,400ish price.

I could switch the carb to a Weber. I did that on my 76 Celica and have been happy with it. The Peugeot trans, as long as it holds up for daily driving, will be fine for me.

I have no plans for lifts or larger wheels. Maybe a few cosmetic things, and a soft top, but that is about it.

turdhurdler Go for the YJ with the DW. Much less labor intensive to fix than rust. Probably just needs new bushings in the springs or wheels balanced/aligned.

sppfields Death wobble to me is an easier fix than rust.

Would you rather...?

Get a 1988 Sahara with 118,000 miles with not that bad of rust and very clean frame, but has some death wobble. Runs very very well and is solid except DW.

Vehicle: 1988 Wrangler 4.2 I6 with 5speed. Has hard top and hard doors (Red on tan)

Price $2,000 OBO private party

-OR-

A 1994 Sahara green on green cloth that's pretty rusty and would need new driver side floor pan and exterior rust fixed. Solid frame. 162,000 miles. No DW, new tires, runs great and drives great.

Vehicle: 1994 Sahara 4.0L I6 with five speed. Tan hard top and doors

Price: $2,345 after tax at used lot.

Is it more of a what's cheaper to fix in the long run?

Would you rather pay less for A clean YJ with DW or pay more for a really rusty 94?

I like the color scheme of the 94 a lot, but I feel like I may just be buying an interior color. The 88's red on tan is okay too.

The green one is closer, as the red one is an hour away while the 94 is about 25 minutes.

The 1988 is a one owner.
