Where did you get the frame cap?

You would need to inspect the frame closely. Look for fresh paint over rust bubbles. If it is bad at the one spot you described (where the shackle attaches) you can fix it. My frame had the same problem. I bought a frame cap from a place online to take care of it. I am still working on it, but I think it will work fine. The cap slides on the frame from underneath and you weld it on. It is about two feet long. It should actually add some strength to the rear frame when done. Maybe I can put some pics up.
I think about all frames are going to eventually do this in the snow belt, unless they didn't get to play in the snow. If you look at the drain hole on the back of the frame you can see how they would plug. I washed mine reguarly in the winter, but it still caught up to me. I have noticed the same problem on a lot of YJ's around me. When I started grinding off the bad spot there was all sorts of dirt and sand inside the frame.
I don't know how else it could have been prevented besides parking it in the winter. That is no fun.
It is not the easiest fix, but it is manageable.

|payj90||if theres rust there i bet theres rust other places in the frame, same spot in the other side, between bumpstop and frame. i would say stay away from that. i am pretty welding on a frame is a no no here in pa. the whole frame is probley thin as well. If you got it for a good price you could probley justify fixing it but i think hes asking to much, but its all up to you.|

|fly's~yj||i agree with vector..but..that is not really the frame..thats is a spring shackle mount..you can grind it off and replace them..looks like he-the po-never hosed down his jeep after wheeling and 'possably' just packed it full of salty mud..|

but I would look over the rest of the frame first if possiable, where theres one hole theres bound to be more

Considering Buying a 1994 Wrangler
I am looking at a 1994 Wrangler listed on ebay and I am trying to see if it is a good deal. You can see the ad here
My one big concern is that there is a 2" by 2" rust hole in the frame. The seller says it is an easy fix, but I am skeptical. What do you think? Unfortuantely, the auction ends today, so whatever input you have is appreciated.
