|uncleben03||I'm a cop here in Iowa. I'm getting ready to install some 100w offroad lights on windshield brackets. It's not illegal to have lights higher than 42" installed, it's only illegal to use them on the road. That being said, I only know that law because I'm into Jeeps and stuff. I doubt 50% of cops know that 42" law without having to look it up.|

It lists aux-driving lights. I would assume if they are aux-offroad lights it would not pertain...
I real easy way to make sure you meet requirements is to have 2 power switches for your lights. If you have a master switch for all your lights that powers the rest of the switches, you can put a cut off switch under the hood for the master power switch. this way you can dis-able your lights in such a way that you will not need covers in the states that require them and you could claim they are off-road lights and you only enable them when heading "offroad"

|roadsuk||A buddy of mine has had the windshield mounted lights on his Jeep for two years or so and never once had a problem so I would go for it if I were you. I thought I read somehwere also that as long as the cover is on while on the road you are fine but I could be mistaken. The way I see it, if the trucks with lights on their rollbars can have them then you can put them on your windshield legally. Do it!|

Anyone have any problems with police and windshield mounted lights in Iowa?
I've been looking at getting some windshield mount brackets for driving lights for my Jeep, and was just looking over the Iowa laws for them on this site. Iowa Lift Laws | Vehicle Modification Rules According to this, the max height at which you can mount them is 42 inches. The windshield mounts would be approximately 52 inches.
I know some of you out there have the windshield mounted lights, and was just wondering if they police have ever given you any trouble about them being too high up?
