I'm going to tie to something. Probably not the frame but a body support. I am also going to put plates on the backside for more strength.

Dempsey Well after about 3 hours of work over the last 3 days I have the bolts and sheetmetal removed from the donor roll bar. I cut it out of a very rust jeep....I got it cheap but paying the price now.

I have it mocked up in the jeep to mark the connection points so I can clean off the herculiner and prep with a rust paint.

CJ7 Roll Bar and Cage Install

For all early CJ owners the factory roll bar bolts to the top of the rear wheel opening and has no connection to any frame or body mounts. This thread will show the process to change a '76 CJ7 roll bar for a later mode CJ7 ('86) along with a front cage.

1st Phase - Remove Existing Roll Bar

The roll bar is connected with 7 bolts per side. 4 go through to the outside of the tub as seen in the first pic. These should be 9/16" bolts. It could be T-45 on the outside...mine were changed before I got the CJ. There then should be 3 bolts going through the roll bar and bolting inside the wheel opening. They should be T-45 on top and 9/16" on bottom.

A small torch and alot of patience will be needed. The Torx bolt like to strip out.

The CJ should have 14 bolts total. Mine had 11 (3 missing) and 1 was loose. 2 had to be drilled and 2 had to be heated several times before removal!

Next step is to prep the '86 roll bar.
