The FSM doesn’t have search capability, so I searched all of the files on my hard drive for VSS and Vehicle Speed Sensor, and didn't find any more information on it.
I did find in a parts catalog that shows Wheel Speed sensors on all four wheels. Not sure if they are the same?
Maybe a Dealer would be able to look up a VSS?

Yes the warranty is up. Where is the speed sensor located? THE VSS. is it in the
transmission or wheel hubs. I have heard several sensors are used including wheel sensors.

From the FSM: “This gauge is controlled by the instrument cluster circuit board based upon cluster programming and electronic messages received by the cluster from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus… The PCM continually monitors the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) to determine the vehicle road speed. The PCM then sends the proper vehicle speed messages to the ElectroMechanical Instrument Cluster (EMIC) (also known as the Cab Compartment Node/CCN). For proper diagnosis of the VSS, the PCM, the EMIC, the CAN data bus or the electronic communication related to speedometer operation a diagnostic scan tool is required….”
Is your warrantee over?

|4 Jeep Family||The sensor on the front hub should only be the anti-lock brake sensor.|

|AzTJ||It was listed for 07-11 JK's.|

When I spoke to jeep they said it might be the sensor on the side of the transmission I changed it out and no joy. They didnt say anything about a speed sensor on the front hub.
Is that on the JK 2009 model?

Pretty sure it's electronically controlled. Unless you have a programmer, you need to take it to a shop or dealer that can look into it. Might be a bad sensor. I'm not positive on where it's located though as I have a TJ.
Unfortunately it looks like the speed sensor is part of the front hub assembly.

I am having problems with my speedometer. the tach works
but the speedometer does not. What supplies the
input to the speedometer? and where is it located?
