markzeronine quick way to see if you have a 44 or 35 is look for a metal or plastic drain plug in the rear.. plastic = 35 (ironically, lol) and metal is the 44

gears i can't help you with. I emailed jeep with my vin and they confirmed that it had a 44 with 3.73

Pilgrim_Jeep Stock 30's, meaning the tires ^^^^^
08-26-2011 03:06 PM
Pilgrim_Jeep How can you tell what you have for axles and gears? I have a 2001 Sahara 4.0 auto on the stock 30's.

Phrankoff ^^^ Got lucky there, partner.

Less than 25% chance of finding one of those in the back

I was happy for you when I read that post Nick.

So, Chris, what rear axle and gear ratio does it have?

JDsDream Congrats and Welcome to the Wrangler Family. Having owned bikes in the past I can honestly say that you are in for the best time you could possibly have on 4 wheels.

ha, I did the same thing with one. dude tried telling me that this one with a lift and black tubes on the front and back was a great deal. I said whatevs and told him he should take 'em off for me b/c they would go as soon as i drove it home. glad i didnt get that one.

tjokee That is not a bad price if it is clean and drives good. I paid $8,900 for my 2000 Sahara with 68,000 miles, I6, factory hardtop and softtop, about 6 months ago.

that being said, considering it already has a hard top (a ~$1000 option) I'd say as long as the frame looks good and there are no leaks, it sounds like a decent deal even with 3.07s. However, if I'm not mistaken the Seattle area has lots and lots of hills. So expect to spend a lot of time in the clutch with 3.07s.

side note: god, I hate those sahara monochrome fender flares. but easily fixed with a trip to

(shameless plug)
you don't like the monotone flares ? on a black sahara? Whatever you sayyy

chrishunt I'm riding it on Saturday... Unless I find something fishy, I'm getting it. Thanks for all the input guys/gals. Much appreciated.

ilmjumper About in line with what I've been seeing (although, I live in a very high price jeep area it seems) There's one right up the road from me about like that for $9995 at a dealer...who kept trying to sell me on the sparkly clean chrome tube bumpers and sidesteps..had to smile at his face when I said those would be the first things to go

If everything checks out ok and the price is right for you I'd get it! Doesn't matter what you pay for them, they all become priceless after a while

JD nailed it, if YOU like it and it checks out buy it.

Xjman1 For what it is worth I bought mine, an '01 Sahara with the same mileage for $10,200 just over 2 months ago from a local dealer. It is an Auto and has a D44 rear end with 3.73 gears on 30" wheels. Sounds like this is a good deal and one I would not have mind seeing 2 months ago, but I am more than happy with my purchase.

Gorving3 I have a 2001 Sahara 6 cyl with automatic, 3:07 differential, and 31 tires. It cruises very nicely at 65-70 MPH over any rolling hills but I do run a lot in 2nd gear while in the mountains of Colorado. Off-road on most jeep trails (no rock crawling) it does fine in 4Low. Got no idea whether the differentials are 35 or 44. It has 59,000 miles with a hardtop, had it since new, non-smokers, no pets or children, NADA lists it for clean trade-in at $10,400 clean retail $13,275. I wouldn't take a dime under $11,500 for it so if yours checks out okay I'd say it would be a terrific deal. Sounds like its a good idea that mine isn't for sale.
01-05-2011 09:51 PM
Hammerwalk Looks *just* like mine. Do your self a favor and check out the rear end. I got lucky and have the d44 rear end, manual tranny, I6, with 31s on it. Hold fine at 75 going up a slight grade as well.

Sounds like a great deal, I got my '02 Sahara, 77k from a dealership for.... ah hell that part ain't important. I'm glad I got it. Get it, you won't regret unless the owner is hiding something.
