bluvikng Hard to pin this down without looking at your jeep. It could be several things. Check the fluid level in your transfer case. If you have a lot of miles on your jeep, and it is a manual, you may be putting just enough pressure on your clutch plate, while in 4WD, to make it smoke, (slip).

camarors91 If its smoking it will be fluids if it smells burning then it could be all sort of things.

Also If you stop smoking the burning smell will go away!

burning smell in 4h

Just noticing today that when im in 4H or 4L I can smell something burning a little....would it be a TC fluid at high temp? Is this normal?
