doclouie I am pretty sure they do make Ranchos for that size lift. I got my Rancho 9000s from my4by.com and they only were like $62 a shock shipped with a lifetime warranty. Check this out. Rancho RS9000XL Shocks | Jeep Wrangler TJ 1997-2006

I did a little investigation and Rancho9000XL do not make shocks that will fit a Wrangler with a 4 inch lift. The only ones I saw was up to 2.5 inches. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Arch Stanton I read this post below among others. However, if OME used twin tubes it must be for a reason, as these shocks are well rated. I've read many of your posts on this and the other forum and you seem to know what you are talking about. Thanks for the post.

Mono-Tube (Single Wall) Shock Absorbers

It’s not often that one is better than two. These shock absorbers use a single-walled tube to enclose the piston, the oil and (sometimes) the pressurized gas. These shock absorber types are much more precise at dampening than the standard shock absorber because they are made with considerably more precise standards during the manufacturing process. Additionally, in most cases, the single-wall shock absorber is considerably stronger than the twin-tube shock absorber because they typically use a larger diameter piston. Further, the single-wall absorber is more resilient to shock fade because it can divide the shock’s oil from the air space far better than a twin-tube shock. With this type of construction comes the benefit of better heat dissipation as well.

Why do you care so much if they are a monotube shock? I've had both styles and for what we do where shocks don't get hot enough for monotubes to be all that important, I don't really see the difference. My previous RE shocks were monotubes and my current OME Nitrochargers are twin-tubes and I much prefer my OMEs for their more controlled ride. I can now keep up with everyone on the dirt roads between trails with my OMEs where with my monotube REs I had to slow down on the whoops.

There's a guide I wrote before about replacing the rear shocks. The fronts I believe are similar just unbolt and go. Don't cut he new shocks open too early until your installing them.

Jerry is correct in that you don't HAVE to remove your tires, but it's such a quick process that when I do the rear shocks I remove them. It gives you so much more room to work with. It's your call though.

Arch Stanton I've read that these are nice riding shocks. I'm looking a smooth riding shock. There was a promotion for the Rancho 9000 shocks and a free controller. Maybe they'll offer another promotion for these shocks. Anyone know if these are gas-charged monotube shocks?

Around here they want 500 plus for a set of 5100s I think I'll figure out which ones I need and order them offline before I paid the extra 200 plus dollars to the only 4 wheel drive shop here.

My dad has run 5100s on his Mega Cab for over a year with no problem yet and that is the shock Rock Krawler suggested and the dealer I purchased the lift from suggested so it's the ones I got.

knnphillips Post a picture of your lift components someone should be able to tell you what size you have. I think shocks go 4 - 5 inch lift so I would go with that length if it was me but I would see if anyone recognized the lift first.

Pierce07 Ya I'm kinda worried about ordering them. I'm not 100% sure what size lift I have. I think it's about 3.5-5" not sure though. Any suggestions when not knowing the exact height?

knnphillips The bilstein 5100s aren't expensive you just got to do a little Internet search determining which length you need. Mine cost under 300.

That's interesting I'm glad you said that I would've jacked it up took the wheels off and made a really easy process hard

Jerry Bransford No need for a front-end alignment after replacing shocks. One set of decent low-cost shocks that get mostly good reviews for ride quality are Skyjacker's Hydros. You can replace your shocks very easily, you don't even need to jack the Jeep up or take the wheels off.

It's time for some new ones looking for some recommendations. I have about 4 inches of lift on my jeep

Also if i put new shocks on would there be any need to get in realigned?
