XJ Knight That amount of lift scares me more than anything else.. YJ brakes... uhhhhhh

drbandkgb i wonder..I have a 18 ft bayliner boat.. will the Jeep pull it? 32 km2s 5inch lift..4.2cyl

ilmjumper Most I've pulled has been about 3000 lbs, probably 2/3s of that was trailer weight, 1/3 was live weight (horse) and it was rediculously scary. If it hadn't been an emergancy situation I wouldn't have even attempted it BUT never went over 45 and I live on the coast...couldn't find a hill if you had to! Light weight trailers, flatbeds, john boats, good with all that! I'd stay away from a short tongue trailer if you can and put most of the weight in front of the axle. Rest just depends on you, definitely recommend doing some test drive short trips to see how it goes though!

VoodooShot I'd be curious if you have over sized tires or a lift other than that drive safe .
Me personally though would level the load on the trailer putting most of the weight over it's axle .
If alot of hills I may put more of the weight in the jeep

stimpy I pulled a 13 ft travel trailer all over the US with my YJ. I think it was only about a ton and the tongue weight was not much. I just have a little 4 banger and didnt do anything special at all, just drove. Even used to pull a 21 foot power boat back and forth to the dock with it. Scary ass hell backing down the ramp with that monster. Just make sure your frame, and hitch are in good shape and just drive.

proper trailer towing technique for Jeep YJ

would appreciate If someone could suggest proper trailer towing technique for Jeep YJ.
Goal: long distance ride, maximum load (trailer + payload = 2000 lb), winter conditions are not an issue (will do it in summer)
I know it is not recommended due to short base and sway problem along with braking issues, but still...

does it make sense to:
1) put heavier stuff in the Jeep itself and load lighter cargo in the trailer to improve stability?
2) use low gear to reduce the load on the engine and transmission?
3) use 4th gear where one normally would use 5th? 3d instead of 4th etc?
4) make periodic pit-stops to cool transmission a bit? for how long? 30 min?
5) redistribute the load in a trailer so that the hitch is loaded (10-15% of the total weight)?
6) not to exceed certain speed (say 50 mph)?
7) install a specific type of hitch?
8) anything else?

I've got a 2-door 1995 WRNGSE/SPT with 4000cc engine volume + single axle trailer
