joe, drive a JK with the diesel engine and you´ll feel the difference.

the only disadvantage is that the diesel sounds like a diesel.
What about guys like me who love teh sound of a diesel??? does it sound like a super duty ford or a dodge cummins? cuz that would make me happy. Another advantage is the ability to butn bio diesel....

Actually Jeep has announced they have modified the liberty diesel and it will return to the US as an option on the new redesigned liberty

Ok, I was open for the discussion, untill you had to throw YOUR non valid ideas in there. Why isnt the 3.8 "that good" have you had problems with YOURS? Isnt the diesel avail in Europe BECAUSE Gasoline is More expensive than Fuel oil? And, last but not least, have you actually driven a 3.8 JK on Rocks? I am not talking about anything other than 4-LOW in THIS part of the discussion. If you look at that site that was posted, they dont offer the Diesel in the RUBICON. So it has more torque. Thats fine IF there really is an issue with the 3.8 not having ENOUGH torque to do whats needed with the proper gearing. I was looking for reasons WHY people want a diesel and the only valid point you had was Fuel Mileage. NEXT.

After looking at that web page, it does not seem that they are putting that motor in the Rubicon.... I really dont understand why everyone wants a 4cyl diesel. What are some of the reasons you guys are so interested in them, I am just wondering.

JCS05Rubi I got to drive a couple myself, here in the states. SWB Rubi, 4 door rubi, a Sahara and a Sport. Wanted to see the difference I would love to have a SWB auto CRD Rubi to play with

VM motori diesel

Just did about 10 thousand k's with my new JK 4 dr diesel down here in Australia. Its winter and it gets all sorts of weather thrown at it. The engine is top, does not sound like a truck at all and the only noise sitting at about 100 km/h on bitumen comes from the gear box.?, diff or so. Funnily it stalled on me a couple of times too, but mostly driving at very low revs. Those modern diesel engines like to be revved a bit more.

Here in the US you can get a Grand Cherokee with a 3.0 diesel, but you have to order the Overland package. I have heard of NO plans for a diesel JK in the US and the Liberty diesel was also squashed.

nicolas-eric the diesel is available all over the world in th JK. in canada, mexico, asia, europe, south america.
only because of the emmissions laws in some of your states you don´t have them.

You wont see this engine in a JK. It was discontinued in the Liberty because it was not emissions compliant. I am not calling you a liar, but I would have to see actual pictures of it to believe it. Did you take pictures of it??? Where did you get it from??? Just curious. They may have them in Europe, but dont count on a 2.8 Italian diesel in the US. They are DIR-TA!!

thomastenn id be very shocked to see a diesel jk in america. each year the emissions are getting strcter for diesels. the only reason they got it to pass in the grand cherokee is the weight rateing, its a 5 cyl version of the 2.8 dont get me wrong a diesel rubicon would be a dream come true

nicolas-eric just another thing.

i´ve heard that they work on the engine to modify it for the US. they talk about a diesel JK in the US at the end of the year.

thomastenn its made by a company in italy i dont recall the name though. the sprinter motor is a benz diesel totaly different.

the 4-gear automatic tranny from the latest TJ is also from this mercedes.

skeeter I sure wish we had weaker environmental laws like europe, I'd give my left something or other for a Wrangler with a diesel.
So, the common rail engine still makes a lot of clatter? who's making it?

Test drive with a 2.8 CRD diesel JK

some weeks ago i had a 3.8L for a whole saturday for a test drive. i didn´t like it because of the engine. it always needed much RPMs and at low RPMs it wasn´t powerful enough.

today i drove a JK with the 2.8 CRD diesel engine. wow man, it´s such a big difference to the 3.8L engine. it has more than enough torque at lower RPMs and driving it (with automatic tranny) was like driving a TJ 4.0L.
and all that with the half fuel/diesel consumtion of the JK 3.8L.

the only bad thing is the sound of the diesel engine. it sounds like a truck engine and not like a modern diesel engine p.e. from mercedes or BMW.

if i would have to buy a JK i would only buy the diesel version.
it has the same price than the 3.8L but it´s much better in my opinion and more like a TJ.
