I know this is a older post but.. Think about these Jeeps.. AMC was about bankrupt they used any parts they could make work from Ford.. Chevy..
Im just amazed getting in to these things that Chrysler never update most of this.. Till 1997.. I guess if it works and still sells dont fix it

sppfields Just an update if anyone is interested. went this past weekend and picked up a transmission mount, spare tire mount, and some other things. Drove the jeep for the first time today. runs great for a 4 cyl. So far, really no issues with the trans install, still need to install the transfer shifter, top off all the fluids, and double check the slave cylinder, it kinda sounds like the throwout bearing is riding on the pressure plate. I went with a 13.5 inch rear driveshaft, but it still may be about .5 inch too long.

sppfields So, i am still looking for a tranny mount/ If anyone has 1 for an AX15 let me know and i will be glad to take it off ur hands. But i did fire the jeep up today, sounds great with the flowmaster muffler.

sppfields Just an update, bolted the transmission up today, most everything went well. the bellhousing lined up great. the slave cylinder and crank position sensor bolted right up. now i just need to find a tranny mount that will work. gotta go back to the junkyard and search. hopefully get more done tomorrow.

And i got the 23 spline input for the transfer installed today. with new seals, so its ready to go back in. Oh and it will be for sale soon.

Epic trade. That's like when the Europeans traded salt for diamonds to the Africans.

unrooly1 Superduty, I laugh with you, not at you. I'm a Chevy guy too. Having a hell of a time getting my head around this crazy little Jeep that my daughter brought home for "us" to fix up.

superduty_5.9 I'm new and still learning but that is F****d up that the AX-15 not a direct replacement for the AX-5. So I take it that the bell housing is different and also the length and also maybe the output shaft spline count? I'm a Chevy guy and a 4cylinder, big block, and diesel all use the same exact bell housing bolt pattern!
