does anyone have the top wind deflector? would that help?

Just wondering to the question of wind flow for our "aerodynamic" jeeps..does anyone have or know someone who uses the top wind deflector and if it helps at all with the wind blowing your hair all over the place... i like the wind but sometimes I can't even keep my hat on..

Yeah I know it was stupid, but I was young and stupid then and wanted to see if I had the cojones to do it. I do know better now

I don't think so, much more a vacuum effet. It would do the same with the sunrider open on a soft top, if the air was getting in, as a parachute, it would inflate, but that's the opposite that is happening, it looks like it would want to collapse inside.

When you are doing the ton.....always where your helmet...

And yes, life is a lot louder at +100mph on a motorcycle....especially when you don't have fairing...just a flyscreen on a bike with mid-controls that you sit upright on. At least I swichted out my stock handlebars to m-bars so I could tuck under a bit.

You dont have door surrounds? These are the plastic trim that attaches to your roll bar with the 2 knobs. It is shaped like an "L" and mounts to the body in front of the roll bar. That covers that gap your talking about.

They come with the Jeep so unless someone took them off and never put them back on, you should have them.
Freedom top=hard top.

Mykul I frequently remove the rear glass, to the point that I don't bother putting all 4 bolts back into the hinges. And yes, I would love some quick release to replace the bolts.

Wood Butcher I've always wondered how badly the air drag is with the freedom tops off. The back of the jeep is basically a parachute and the front of the jeep is as aerodynamic as a school bus....so yeah, a lot of wind noise for sure, but does the air get caught in the back or does it really not drag as much as I think it is?

Actually I would say its more like someone who bought 3.21 gears to go extreme rock crawling and going, wait, somethings wrong here.

I have had convertibles before. I ride motorcycles with and without a helmet. I know what environment is. For me its about why the is there a wind tunnel directed at my ear when I sit in the only place that I fit in to drive? Maybe if I were 5 foot and could sit far enough forward to make this not happen, but I have to sit with the seat as far back as it goes. Having had 4 door cars/trucks with this same issue its easy - drop the rear window a bit. With other 2 door cars, the doors/windows are usually so long this effect takes place behind where you sit and doesn't bother the driver.

not everyone who has issues is a newb who never has had a top off or window down.

Instead of lowering the front window, try 120 on a bike with no helmet. Driving a Jeep with the front window down is nothing.

spinlock It must be Spring time. New owners experiencing wind, sun, dust, noise, bugs, etc,etc,etc entering their otherwise perfectly quite and serene JK environment for the first time because they dared to remove the top or part of it. :ROFL:

Try lowering the windshield once.

your solution.. get a soft top, so you can drop it easily and fast. Or upgrade your speakers... but really wind noise will always be your enemy.

There are certain aspects of owning a Jeep that suck (just read consumer reports, they love to point them out! ). Having said that, most people dont buy a jeep hoping it functions like a minivan (despite the motors being quite similar), or a Sebring. They buy it because it has the capability to do things other vehicles cant even come close to doing... My suggestion is to learn to embrace the suck.

oomis Without giving the OP any more grief...because as it's been pointed out, Jeeps are the antithesis of aerodynamic, Top Gear did a bit a while ago on turbulence in convertibles.

What they found was that when a barrier was used to break up the wind, there was much less turbulence in an open cab. I bet a windbreaker (and there are a couple of styles if you do a search on Jeep windbreaker) is what you're looking for. Basically it reduces the volume of space in which air can be "dirty".

I haven't used one yet, but I do have one on order. I don't expect it to make things whisper quiet, but I do expect to be able to reduce dirty airflow at highway speeds.

Or not. It's a Jeep thing.

grizzstang I find most vehicles with the windows down on the highway are loud as hell so I don't think the Wrangler is much different.

I would have the windows up with the Freedom Panels off and look into an air dam for the Freedom Panels. Wade makes one for the 2007-12's that attaches to the top of the windshield frame for about 70 bucks. You might have to do some digging to find one for a 2013 (maybe Wade has one that I could not find a listing for).

flyfishnevada I've had my freedom tops off at highways speeds but with the windows up. Not too loud, I could listen to the stereo and have a conversation. Air flow was minimal. I was actually surprised at how little air came in to the cab. I'll have to try it with the windows down. Other than putting them back on at highway speeds, something that takes a few minutes, try a mesh sun shade. That might moderate the airflow somewhat.

OP, you may be out of luck (being that you already have a Spiderwebshade). It is a brick on wheels...so it will have a lot of turbulence.

I took the top off once, it was great, nice airflow and none of the noise. It's just not convienient to find another person to help take the top off (and then back on), not to mention weather concerns.
