Ibuildembig Your gonna have more like 2K in um by the time they are installed and ready to run. I run 5.13's on a 42 in my rig...but I have run 4.56's on 42's and 44's before too with an atlas case...its all a recipe, you just have to figure out what your main goal is.

On my next project I plan on running a 60 and a 10.25 on a 35" tire and a 4.10 gear.

Tjeep Ok ok 1400 for axles ain't bad. Could I run it with 35's for a while then go up to 37's or will they just be to big and heavy to work. I was also wondering if 5:13s will go good with 35's. I know they will with 37's

Ibuildembig It all depends, if you wanna stay stock with your engine, trans, and case your gonna either have to get it out of a 77-97 ford f350 or a later model dodge...but they are not really a 60 as far as I am concerned. Ford started the model 60 high pinion in late 1977 and ran it through 79 in that configuration. They went without in 1980-1984 and it late 85 they brought it back but the spring pad distance increased. In 92 they made um balljoint instead of kingpin so I would try to avoid one of those. For jeep applications the 77-79 model is the most desireable, but is also one of the most expensive front axles you can buy. I have several right now and I wouldn't consider less than 1300 for one in pieces, they are just too hard to find. As far as strength of a 10.25 goes, umm I've seen um take stuff a 14 bolt wont....and they are lighter, cheaper, and don't drag on near the stuff. They came in pretty much every 3/4 and ton truck starting in 1985-97 and you should be able to pick on up for around 100 bucks

Ok with that suggestion. How much would a 60 cost? And what vehicle could I get that out of? A ford 10.25 would cost what? What vehicle would that come out of? Strength wise how would that compare to a 9 inch?

Ibuildembig Early bronco stuff is twice as high as jeep....and jeeps are not cheap.

Well first of all if you wanna use your tj suspension your gonna have to buy and weld on all kinds of brackets to make um work. That being said the cheapest axles you can get would be out of a 73-79 F150, dana 44 front and 9 inch rear. Other than that if it were mine I would go straight to a Dana 60 front and a Ford 10.25 rear.

Wait, I thought those were cheap. So anyway are there any axles that I could get that are reasonably priced with almost the same strength? The ones with a spring set up because I have a tj. Ill still get a hp44 front but maybe a 14 bolt rear or is that overkill? 10 bolt? What would you suggest?

Ibuildembig Yes pretty much every half ton ford from 65-79, but....there was only one 5 lug leaf sprung Dana 44 and that was in the supercab 4x4 F150's only. All the other 44's use a radius arm/coil setup, the 66-77 versions included. The 66-77 Bronco front will be closer to your stock width than a truck one and it will also have a 9 inch rearend....but a 28 spline version. The biggest problem is 66-77 bronco axles are big money...especially a disc brake 44 front. If I were you I would use full size axles out of a pickup and be done with it. Tjeep For the bolt pattern I could just change the wheels right? And I don't really know what vehicle its gonna come out of. I thought id get a dana 44 and a ford 9 out of different vehicles. Did one vehicle come with a 44 front with a 9 rear?

AzTJ ^ X2 - The WMS-2-WMS width will not vary a whole lot between the front and rear if they came from the same vehicle.

Ibuildembig What year bronco? 78-9 or 77 and prior? That's gonna be a big width difference. Whatever the front comes out of will have a matching 9 inch rear. Ford didn't make the axles exactly the same track width for a reason. That being that if they are slightly different, the rears wont have to run in the front ruts. Keep in mind the bolt pattern will be 5x5.5 instead of your 5x4.5

So,
I was looking at a ford 9 inch rear with a HP dana 44 front set up. The 44 will be out of a ford bronco. (Anybody ever ran one of those?) I heard that the 44 will stick out 2 inches or so. I was wondering if the 9 inch sticks out as well or if needed wheel spacers.

What truck could I get a 9 inch out of also?
