New front bumper questions
So I just finished my rear bumper and now it is on to the front bumper. Right now I do not have the money for a Warn winch, but should by the Fall. I want to make a bumper that will be able to work with my winch that I will put on later. I am going to keep the stock sway bar so that must stay, but I do not know how far forward I need my bumper, which will be made out of 3/16" 2"x4" tubing. I have the brackets shown and it looks like distance between the red line and blue line is about 6". Do I need to move the front bumper out farther and if so how much? I would like the bumper to protect my future winch. I know this is a pretty specific request so thanks for the pictures and measurements.Attachment 56470
What I did was use 2x6 with .120 wall cut like so...
Used a few clamps and tacked it up like so....
notched the ends and swooped them back a bit....
Now the mounting I decides was .25 wall angle iron.... 3x3 on top and 2x2 on bottom. 'finger-joined across the back of the bumper for strength leaving 1/2" gap in fingers for welding.
The final product....
And finished in Plasti-Dip
Any winch plate should work.... I am going with a raised one.... maybe that will change if I go with the antirock swaybar.....
^^ great looking bumper. Love that you did it yourself. I know NOTHING about welding. You should start selling those. Looks awesome. I would buy one from you...
Thanks! I would like to... but I would lose my quality time with the wife/family as all my time would be spent in the garage..... been there, done that.
Don't think this hasn't crossed my mind more than a few times.....
