PLEASE HELP, should I buy?

Been looking at getting a new JK, but finally decided to get a new truck and a used Jeep instead.

So I was looking around and found an 89 YJ with custom ford truck axles, V8, dual flowmaster exhaust, 115K miles with a full restore at 100k, and selling for around 2K.

What do you guys think, should I buy or should I look for a TJ instead? I already contacted the seller and hoping to decide today if it's still available. Thanks.

Depends on the condition and what all the custom stuff really is. Unless I know the history of the Jeep, I usually try to buy a stock one or close to stock and build it myself. However look it over and see what you think. Is there a link or pic's of the jeep ya can post?

2K? really?? I'd be pretty skeptical of that one considering all the mods you listed.......

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm hoping to hear from the seller today to get more details. Sorry, I had posted this quickly this morning since I had to leave for work. I think my main question was if there was any pro/con against a YJ vs TJ. But on my drive into work, started thinking it probably does not matter too much anyways since the axles, engine, etc has been replaced and not stock.

A friend of mine got a Porsche 911 with a 935 body kit once that was appraised for about $40K and got it for only $15K. Turns out he was going through a divorce and collected Porsche's and was selling all his cars cheap so his wife could not get any more money out of him :)

Anyway, I'm hoping it's just a case where they want to get it off their hands and just looking for some quick cash or something. Here are some pics.

Very nice jeep, my only problem with it is the shiny stuff in front.

I'd say buy it. Outside of that hood scoop it looks good.

I think its too good to be true myself ,if they offer to ship it to you ,report them, they are trying to scam you.

Yeah, I think it's a scam or something. Found the listing on cars.com and tried calling the phone number and goes to fax. And ironically, the extension they had listed was the same year of the Jeep. I found another Jeep on cars.com for just under $3K and that one really doesn't feel right after the guy emailed me. He says it had just under 65K miles, yet I did a google search on the VIN he provided and I see that same Jeep was sold with same pictures listed in Texas, then Oklahoma, then Alabama, now I guess it's in VA :) And in one of the pictures, it even shows the odometer reading at just over 67k miles yet he list it at just under 65K :)

Anyway, I did find an 01 TJ close to me from Craigslist so may check that out. If it don't feel right, then I'm sticking to looking for a used Jeep at a reputable dealer. May end up just waiting until the 2012 hit the lots and hopefully get a new 2011 cheap. It's just going to be used to play around in and not my DD

But thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. Here's the two I was referring to.

Has anyone used cars.com? I just found another one and googled the fax number and it's a fax number at a hospital in the area. I'm wondering if they are using this as like a phishing scam or something to get peoples email and cell phone numbers to send txt's to from the forms being filled out. Yeah, I think I'm definitely going to be sticking with a reputable dealer.
