Hey, I was wanting a black jeep. Put a listing on craiglist and got this guy to respond to me.

His Jeep for mine plus $4000.

My Jeep, - Blue
1999, 67k miles, 4.0L, auto, 4" susp lift, 3" BL, M/T 33's on craigers, New Jasper Engine with 2 yr warranty, headers, K&N CAI, exhaust, double tube front and rear bumpers, bushwacker fender flares, hood scoop, Never taken off road, adult owned..

His Jeep - Black
1997, 154k miles, 4.0L, auto, 4" susp, New 33" Mud tires on 15X8, New SEM Hot Rod Flat Black Paint, New Lights, Full stereo with sub and amp, New Plugs, New wires, New Power steering, New bettery, New cap.

Also, why would he have all that new stuff put on the engine? Think something else would be wrong with it.

NewYJOwner 07-11-2011 08:23 PM

plugs, wires, cap are normal tune up maintenance items. Battery, could be old or upgraded to better battery. hes offering the 4,000 along with his TJ??

headbasha 07-11-2011 08:26 PM

Yes, that was the terms that i suggested.

NewYJOwner 07-11-2011 08:32 PM

Well, neither is highly modded, compapable in specs, your engine is newer with a warranty, But 4,000 will go a ways to repair any undisclosed problems. Ever thought of painting yours?

headbasha 07-11-2011 08:39 PM

My jeep has about 6k worth of upgrades, i think there is a big difference in the 2 jeeps.

Yea, ive thought about it. I just hate to paint a perfectly good vehicle. The paint on mine looks good, no scratches, dings, dents, scuffs, nothing.

BLK00TJ 07-11-2011 08:42 PM

I'd just paint. I do like that paint he has. hmmm....

NewYJOwner 07-11-2011 08:45 PM

Could you build up that one to your wants and satisfaction for the 4,000?
I would make arrangements to meet and test drive each others, check it out thoroughly, and decide from there.

MikeMTJ 07-11-2011 08:50 PM

I wouldn't do that. Trading a vehicle with a new engine for another with 154k? All for a silly paint job?

dale 3 07-11-2011 08:50 PM

Miles on a vehicle is HUGE!! Miles is what you can relate to FATIGUE! You'll be replacing more parts on higher mileage.Unless lower miles is used hard and maintained poorly.Mods can always be added.Sometimes bought right slightly used, some people change mods just for a change again.GOOD LUCK!

jp'rs_peep'rs 07-11-2011 08:56 PM

In my humble opinion I'd just paint.

C.

leadsails17 07-11-2011 09:27 PM

I would also have to say no to that, Miles are to much. Just go with the paint job if u want a black jeep.

Full agreement with this^

Get rid of that 3 inch body lift on your's then paint it black. 67k but im guessing you were the only owner which is nice, id keep it.

MoA 07-12-2011 12:05 AM

just get yours painted?

ospreyguy 07-12-2011 06:21 AM

Many have said it. Paint yours. A good flat black paint job is pretty cheap...

elginbike 07-12-2011 07:32 AM

No

jp2611 07-12-2011 07:41 AM

Paint

Pock Heebs 07-12-2011 07:50 AM

No way! Keep yours blue or pAint your own...is it your first jeep?

Idk about you but I don't ever wanna get rid of my first one...call me sentimental haha

headbasha 07-12-2011 08:05 AM

Yes, first jeep. First toy vehicle also that i can just do whatever too and not worry about it because its a 3rd vehicle. I think you guys have won the vote so i am just going to tell him No Deal and look further into painting my vehicle this winter. I also need to regear and get 4Low working. The linkage is not working.

SurfKaster 07-12-2011 08:10 AM

1st of all that's not a bad deal, but I'd definitely have it THOROUGHLY checked out before pulling the trigger. There could very well be a reason why he's willing to make that deal.

Also, why did he have it painted? Was the original paint faded, had the vehicle been wrecked, or is he like you & just want black. Furthermore, those flat black paint jobs can be had for cheap. You'd be trading a Jeep you know for one with a $300 paint job.

OregonTJ 07-12-2011 08:12 AM

do not trade for a high mileage rig...........

I bet that linkage would work without a 3" body lift

hambubba 07-12-2011 11:54 AM

No way I'd trade his for yours, even with low miles. Anything wrong with that one can be easily fixed with 4k. I smell something here, not sure what you're stepping in...

TJWenatchee 07-12-2011 12:27 PM

Just Paint It !

Arch Stanton 07-12-2011 01:37 PM

x2 paint it!

BTA88 07-12-2011 02:38 PM

I wouldn't touch that trade with a 10ft pole.

Unless I owned the black one.

JeepCreeper 07-12-2011 02:43 PM

Another vote for paint... and GET RID OF THE 3" BL!

clouddown 07-12-2011 03:14 PM

Nah

head...I'm with the crowd that says paint is the best solution. The mileage difference and the "unknown" aspects of the other guy's rig would make me hesitate. Better the devil you know than the one you don't know. Keep diggin'!!!

missingbite 07-12-2011 03:28 PM

Neither! That blue you have is great! I see lots of black jeeps but that blue is more rare! KEEP IT BLUE! and ditch the 3 in BL.

sparky 07-12-2011 03:36 PM

Keep yours, lose the B/L, keep the blue (everybody and his brother has black) you'll have some distinction.

Why'd you put a new motor in it?
