Droppin' a Line from South Texas

I am deciding to try and get my Jeep into a better fuel efficient vehicle and decided to become a member of this forum.

I own a

2000 Jeep Sahara 4.0L V6
Automatic Transmission
Bestop Softop w/ Sun-Rider Roof
Jeep Standard Hard Top

Any idea's on how to improve my MPG from 12 in the city to a higher number?

I'm looking at a Hypertech performance processor. Any idea's?

Welcome to the forum! You're gonna have a lot of fun here and learn a lot too.

The only thoughts I have on increasing your fuel mileage would be to try something like this:

in reality the only way is to always use the hardtop, and to keep off the skinny pedal, i would also unplug the batery for 15 minutes and then reconnect i t, then it will relearn your driving habits and maybe get you a little better mpg, you should also spray all your sensors with sensor cleaner,

but most importantly keep off of the gas pedal and you should get around 16-18

btw Welcome to WF

Carefull or you'll be like my dad... he would spend thousands of dollars to save a hundred.

You can get some good ideas here but face it, you are driving a vehicle with the aerodynamics of a refrigerator.

Hello from NW Houston.

Sorry I can't help with the mileage.

Where in Houston are you?

First thing Odhinn did to increase his mpg was to remove his lightbar. Then he did something underneath the hood, but he'd have to tell you all about that.

Wouldn't you get better mileage without the hardtop?

Welcome to WF

Ran a CAI and a Throttle botty spacer but they only gave me a bump of 1 or 2 MPG (not worth the cost IMO). Removing the light bar increased it a solid 2 to 3 MPG. Just installed an electric fan (to help when wheeling or sitting at idle for long periods of time) and replaced the fan clutch on the mech fan (always on and had to air hammer it off the pump) two days ago. I'm hoping I get a couple more MPG from this work.

Right now I am hovering around 17-20 highway (dependent on the wind direction) and a solid 15 city.

To add it always helps to keep your engine cleaned out. Throttle body service, regular oil changes, tune ups, etc.
